CG was active for 49 games, though, and we literally had to ration his games out towards the end of the season. He would have played much more if we hadn't stupidly had him active but DNP for so many games in the first part of the year when we were actually relatively healthy at the guard spot. Nobody said CG was ever going to be in the rotation this year. It's like you're going far out of your way to misrepresent or misunderstand my point. My point was that our guard depth last year wasn't close to good enough (you can tell by the way we didn't get the 1 seed and didn't win a championship) and this year it's far worse. So what do you think is going to happen this year? Spoiler: -Trey will be active but not playing all the damn time in the early season while the other guards are healthy and Pickett doesn't dress. -At some point Jamal will get hurt. -At some point Russ will get hurt. Hopefully not at the same time as Jamal. -At some point a SG will get hurt. Hopefully not at the same time as Jamal and/or Russ. -We'll be sitting around trying to decide whether to burn another of Trey's 50 games now or try to hold out until March when we're in a race for playoff seeding Do I think CG's absence will be the ultimate difference maker in the final outcome of ourseason? Of course not. But the absolute #1 road block we can see in front of us is guard depth. And we got way less deep at guard even before the CG situation, essentially swapping out Reggie/KCP/Holiday for just Russ. So instead of having two possibly playable emergency guard options in CG and Trey, we decided to go out of our way to only have one. So that we can have yet another 6'7" forward in Seth Jones. Unless this kid comes out of nowhere and lights it up, what circumstance can you envision where Seth Jones contributes even to the level of CG last year or Trey's expected contribution this year? Even if we lost MPJ AND Watson there's almost no chance of those minutes going to Jones. They're going to be redistributed between CB, AG, and Vlatko. God help us, even Zeke and Tyson are ahead of Jones in that line. And again... CG was free. He didn't count against the roster or the salary cap and we could've matched his contract. I get your point. I just think it doesn't matter. Like counting when a players active vs games played? Who the player getting DNP'd isn't important. CG playing 24 vs 40 games changes nothing. The Nuggets wasted those games because they knew it didn't matter. We could have won the 1 seed if we didn't have that hilarious collapse vs the Spurs. We had the biggest choke job in game 7 history and that wasn't because of CG or Pickett. It was the starters. Your making my point. The deep depth was bad last year and didn't hurt the season at all. We had a massive lead in Game 7 and we're well on our way to the WCF. CB/Strawer hitting and Westbrook fitting in is what will determine our depth. We know we'll see an ugly stretch where guys get hurt and we'll need the starters to step up. CG over Pickett isn't changing your win totals and that's why I don't care. Fully agree he's the better choice and it was dumb to keep Pickett but in the grand scheme of things it's not that important. I can think of 20 things that are more important. I'm not a huge fan but even debating the fact that CG shoulda seen more minutes is more interesting. You making the case CG could have an impact and should have got more minutes and could thrive in PHX is better than pretending like the 11th man matters. If the Nuggets hit a point where it does the season's a failure and no bench warmer is changing that. The guard depth that matters is CB thriving as a starter, Westbrook being a positive, and Strawther being a legitimate rotation piece. Murray being healthy in the playoffs is the most important thing. If we get that we're in a great spot. Oufff and you just talked about Hunter vs Hunted. Thinking roster spots dont matter is the exact arrogance that you described. 🤢🤢🤢

Nuggets fans saw our starters being run into the ground, saw the bench being terrible every game, seeing a ring slip between our hans because of a lack of dept. But they stil dont think the 10-15 men matters.
Well in that case 🤷🏻♂️

People argue just to argue. There is no discussion that CG could help this team more than Pickett. He obviously would and it would obviously have been worth it in every aspect except for financially.
If youd rather have someone else. Say their name. Dont make up s**t about the 11th man not mattering. 11?!?

And, again, we could have kept CG without clearing a main roster spot. We instead chose to let him walk and replace him with another forward on a team that is extremely forward/center heavy. How many guys would have to go down for Jones to play meaningful basketball for us this year? At least three, maybe for or five. How many guys would have to go down for CG/Trey to play meaningful basketball for us this year? One, at most two. So why not keep both? Especially when Trey could be pulled in as a SG too.

But they stil dont think the 10-15 men matters. Well in that case 🤷🏻♂️ I'm genuinely not trying to argue at all honestly. I just don't get it. I've never seen the argument in all my years of being a basketball fan. I'll just agree to disagree. I don't think the Nuggets lost the 1 seed because of CG/Pickett. I don't think it had any impact on winning a championship. I think this narrative that everyone was ran into the ground is overblown. Sure they were but any team going back to back will be regardless of depth. It didn't stop them from building a massive lead in Game 7. It literally came down to a 5 minute stretch. Just like the 1 seed vs S.A. It's not like the Nuggets lost in round 1. It's not like the Nuggets lost in a way that was surprising. We seen the ups and downs all season. Nuggets could turn it on when they wanted too but when things fell apart it could get ugly. Lakers series, Minny, S.A game, you saw it all year. That's not on the 11th man. We were fooled and it's pretty clear with the historic choke job so we're the Nuggets. I don't get the logic behind thinking a historic choke job was impacted by someone who played 24 games lol Now if you wanna say Malone was an idiot for not playng CG over the corpse of Jackson? That he's gunna ball out in PHX and not keeping him will have an impact? I'd disagree but that's fair. Freaking out over players that'll play less than 10 MPG when there's 20+ more important things to focus on is crazy. If the Nuggets fail it'll be because of Booth rolling the dice on CB as a starter and Strawther/Watson/Westbrook/Zeke etc. or Murray laying another egg. Jalen Pickett won't impact the season outside of us having to watch him be awful. In those games he plays you'll have 5+ other reasons why we lost and CG wouldn't change that.

going with Trey Alexander's upside over the 25 year old finished product Facu Gillespie is one of Calvin's rare Ws this off season. Just calling him Facu Gillespie disqualify you from having on opinion worth listening to imo if you lie about your height, you're Facu. and now Malone will play Trey when one of Jamal/Russ are out with injury. I think that's a good thing considering he killed the SL. I would be shocked if Facu Gillispie will get any run with Jones and Monte on the roster in Phoenix. Why are you making this CG vs Trey? Fami had been so f***ing clear he is talking about Pickett I can think of a dozen vets we should've signed over CG if we had Pickett's roster spot. Tim let Monte walk and traded the last draft capital he had left for Donda Academy standout Rob Dillingham. what if he doesn't hit? here's the thing about the two-timeline strategy Erik: it works if the players are actually good. Strawther, Trey, Braun, Watson = worth taking a gamble on. Pickett, Hunter = waste of roster spot

This is absolutely a good point, and IMO it’s roster decisions like this (admittedly relatively small) that is the “canary in the coal mine”, so to speak. It’s an indicator that the GM might be full of himself, and not as good as his predecessors.

You can't lie about your height when they measure you on camera. And, for the 50th time, they DID NOT HAVE TO CLEAR A ROSTER SPOT TO KEEP HIM And you can play Trey, Strawther, Braun, and Watson without shipping CG and Holiday out of town for no reason. You don't have to completely gut your depth to play young guys. You can just play them with the vets on the bench.

what makes you think Gillespie wanted to stay on the Nuggets as the 4th PG?

what makes you think Gillespie wanted to stay on the Nuggets as the 4th PG? Who cares? He was a restricted free agent. If a team wants to poach your two-way guys they have to offer them a full time contract. If you're a restricted free agent on a two-way your team can match any other two-way offer that comes your way. That's what happened last year with Jack White. Another team offered him a two-way, we decided to match, then the Thunder signed him to a main roster contract and we decided not to match.

the Nuggets don't operate with who cares. we don't have that luxury. if Gillispie wanted to move on to the Suns, we're going to let him. only glamour markets and Darryl Morey get away with pissing off agents.
like you said, PHX is a way better situation for CG than Denver

You have absolutely zero evidence he wanted to leave, and the most likely scenario is staring you right in the face.

I'm just trying to open your mind to the possibility that Calvin isn't sabotaging the roster for Jalen Picketts sake and there could be outside factors in play.

I'm just trying to open your mind to the possibility that Calvin isn't sabotaging the roster for Jalen Picketts sake and there could be outside factors in play. There are reports all over the place of discord between Booth and Malone and we've already seen Booth clear guys out of here for Strawther's sake. It's very obvious that Booth wants the guys he gave bad contracts to (Zeke, Tyson, Pickett) to play and Malone doesn't want to play them. Malone very pointedly went out of his way not to name Pickett and Tyson when he was praising the young guys (he said Braun, Watson, Strawther, Trey, Hall, and Holmes by name) while Booth was going around calling Pickett "mini Jokic". I also believe Booth wanted Vlatko gone but Jokic forced his hand.

I dont even think CG is that amazing. I just think it is insane that people argue against keeping CG ahead of Pickett and especially the last two way guy

In situations like that the feeling is often mutual. But in this situation Calvin CLEARLY wanted him gone. And I had no problem with that if we rounded out the roster with better players and not worse

You guys are going to come to find that Jokic having a backup who can actually hit 3's and grab a rebound is going to be a bigger difference in our win shares, than whatever KCP could give us at age 32.

Only if CB can hit around 38% of his 3s from about 4 or 5 attempts per game. Which I believe he can. But if he has a poor shooting start to the year then things may get ugly.

Same people who would cry “denver is cheap and let Murray walk!” If we didn’t sign him.

Our GM should stop accepting mediocrity and instead try to maximize the talent around a top 10 player of all time. He's pushed all of his chips in on 2 injury prone guys. It's very concerning. I get your point but letting Murray walk doesn’t help. It’s not like we can even come close to replacing him.
