Our roster will be reshaped rather quickly.
Upcoming deadlines:
June 23: Vlatko Cancar's 1 year, 2.35M team option
June 25: Reggie Jackson's 1 year, 5.25M player option
June 26: NBA Draft Nuggets have #28 and #56
June 29: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's 1 year, 15.4M player option Collin Gillespie (RFA) qualifying offer Braxton Key (RFA) qualifying offer Jay Huff (RFA) qualifying offer
June 30: Free agency begins (technically it's the "legal tampering period" and teams can't officially sign people until July 6) Justin Holiday (UFA) DeAndre Jordan (UFA)
My offseason hopes: -Trade MPJ, Zeke, Reggie (assuming he opts in), Pickett, and Tyson. Maybe Strawther, maybe not. Attach picks if necessary. -Hopefully retain KCP -Find a new starting SF, a new 2C, a new 2PG -Convert CG to a full time contract to be 3PG -A fond farewell to DJ -If Holiday will come back at the minimum, bring him back. If not, so long and thanks. -Pick up Vlatko's option -retain Key and Huff on two-ways, at least initially, since we can always cut them anyway if we find someone with more upside. Obviously if someone poaches them for a full time spot you let them go like with White last year, but I like them both as two-ways.
Hopeful roster entering next season PG: Jamal Murray, (new player), Collin Gillespie, (new two-way) SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Christian Braun, Julian Strawther or new player SF: (new player), Peyton Watson, Justin Holiday or new player PF: Aaron Gordon, Vlatko Cancar, (new player), Braxton Key (two-way) C: Nikola Jokic, (new player), (new player), Jay Huff (two-way)
Don't care what combination of trades, free agents, or picks are used to get the new guys.

I agree we need to see some changes, but we'll see if we actually do??

Yes, definitely! I think a refresh is in order. Most teams that win multiple titles upgaade their lineups over time.We have to make adjustments to be able to beat MIN which is absolutely our toughtest competition. Another big and another offensive creator are a must going forward. I'm putting my view that MPJ for Bogi and Deandre Hunter, is my wishlist trade. Doesn't solve the backup big issue, but gets us a starter who can defend, shoot 3's, and attack rim in Hunter, and then a backup PG in Bogi who can shoot, and take load off of Jamal. Still need a big in that scenario, but I think I'm in for that. If you look at Bogi's stats his shooting % significantly better in games where he takes 12 or fewer shots vs. taking more than 15. He wouldn't have to take that many for us, and would be able to be in the 22-26 mpg area. Definitely think he could avg 12/3/3 on 44/38/90 splits. Then you'd have Hunter who would probably average 15/3/3 on 46/38/84 splits. That's 27 ppg for a player who's avg. 17 ppg. I'd take that in a heart beat. Just don't know if ATL will do it, but if they'e willing to get off of Bogi's contract to invest in a player in MPJ who has upside who if you pair with Murray or Young may be a good 2nd banana on a team in the East who's rebuilding.

I'll be interested to see how Calvin offloads Zeke and Reggie with no draft capital, after the latter picks up his player option (I don't know what planet Reggie had the leverage to negotiate a PO, but it wasn't planet earth). the Nuggets literally cannot afford the 14m of dead money on the cap these two will make next season.

Reggie will be a 5.25M expiring contract and he's a well liked vet who just played 94/94 games for us. He'll be easy to unload somewhere, especially to a team that wants to tank for one more season. I don't see many contenders having interest but a team with a bunch of young guys that is a year or two away from trying to make a playoff run? Absolutely. They get a year of Reggie not contributing much to winning and thus not messing up the tank, but being a good locker room dude, then they get the cap space at the end of the year. Zeke, they'll have to attach a pick or send him out with MPJ. It's the only way.

Zeke, they'll have to attach a pick or send him out with MPJ. It's the only way. We are in the second apron on July 1st. All of your proposed changes, in aggregate, are virtually impossible with the second apron restrictions. For example, combining MPJ’s and Zeke’s contracts for someone is not allowed, from what I understand. It’s complicated. I need to find an article that reviews in plain English what the second apron does to team flexibility to make deals. If I do, I will post a link here. Some other comments to your thread opener: If Huff is worth retaining on a 2-way, why couldn’t he also be considered worthy of backup C standard contract? You want someone more proven. But if the FO doesn’t think that Huff has that potential, then even the 2-way spot should go to someone else. Same with Key and backup SF. CG is gone, according to Harrison Wind, who repeated this prediction on X/Twitter. He clearly has some inside info. DJ plans to be back. Looking to settle in Denver long-term. Does the FO want him back to take up a roster spot as our Mike Miller or Richard Jefferson type? MPJ is more likely to stay than be dealt. This is just reality despite fan sentiment that is either open to him being traded (I’m in this camp) or outright crying out and demanding he be gone. Won’t happen. Not without a sufficient return in talent. Second apron rules could squelch any sort of deal our FO would otherwise make. RJ is tradeable after he opts in, but they’ll keep him if they can’t find a better, younger backup veteran PG. CG could develop into that, but not at the outset assuming he gets a standard contract. And again, Wind says he’s outta here. Bottom line is that this appears to be a less active summer than we’d want. Just not much we can do, given the CBA constraints. Consider extending KCP as maybe the best piece of news we will get in summer, and you won’t be disappointed. Asking for much more than that is inviting a letdown.

if we can't retain Facu Gilipse, that would be extremely unfortunate. he's already a better player than Reggie.

if we can't retain Facu Gilipse, that would be extremely unfortunate. he's already a better player than Reggie. Do we know CG can play 94 of 94 RS and playoff games without breaking another bone? Do we know CG can hit 35-36% of his 3’s, given that’s what Reggie has done for his career and this season? CG barely hit at that percentage in G-League. Do we know CG can have an asst/to ratio of 3/1? He was quite turnover prone at Grand Rapids. Look, I think CG has long range potential, but no way he steps in as a primary backup PG even if we retain him. Reggie will only be replaced if we can obtain a PROVEN younger veteran. Monte Morris, anyone? If KCP opts out and enters free agency, we go back to being first apron team and could combine Zeke and MPJ’s contracts for $41 million coming back. That is worth considering.

I can't speak on future injuries as I'm not a clairvoyant.
but I can absolutely guarantee if Colin was placed in a similar position where he was propped up by Joker and Murray for most of the season, he would perform better than Reggie's -8.4 on/off diff per 100

It is not fully appreciated just how bad of a basketball player Reggie Jackson is.
only 2021-22 Facu Compazzo can compare to his ability to be an abject disaster on both ends of the floor.
even Will Barton in his last season with the Nuggets when it was clear he no longer possessed the capability to be a productive basketball player, was basically a net neutral on-off wise (-1.2). Reggie (and Facu before him) crater the lineups they play in.
if the Nuggets run it back with 35 year old Reggie, we will be employing Einstein's definition of insanity.

I don’t see how kcp opts in.
I think there’s a team out there that will offer $80m for 4 years.
Either Braun or Watson gotta get ready to start.

Concur as I also doubt he gets 4 years at his age but somebody will offer him 20+ mil/year and I don't see KSE matching at that amount.

That is true about being a 2nd apron team starting July 1st. However until that point Booth can trade MPJ and/or Zeke (e.g., NBA draft) under first apron restrictions and I bet that if KSE desires to resign KCP in July that MPJ and/or Zeke are long gone by that point. If not, then say goodbye to KCP...simple as that.

if we can't retain Facu Gilipse, that would be extremely unfortunate. he's already a better player than Reggie. That’s likely wishful thinking. RJ is close to washed but still has some (admittedly diminished) basketball skills and a 7’ wingspan. There is a reason the organization doesn’t see Gillespie as part of its future — physically he has only negatives and absolutely no positives — he’s very small but unlike guys like Facu and TJ McConnell he’s neither quick or strong. Gillespie turns 25 in June and there is little to no evidence he’s a legit NBA player.

to be clear, I prefer CG as the third string PG. neither is fit for purpose and we need to find an upgrade.
