Matt Moore said we didn't want to give up the assets they wanted (probably MPJ) not sure if that's "close" Pretty sure he said close early on in the Pod though. Talks late Wed/early Thurs were close. And of course we'd all rather have MPJ. Just funny that the typical Tim line has trickled out like it does literally every single trade deadline.

According to Matt Moore "The Nuggets were very close to a major trade for a starting caliber player" So at least we got the standard Tim "we were aggressive but the price was too high" spin this year just like every year before. TBH he might not have been lying. We are better then the other similar market teams that had the same starting (if not better) point several years ago. So his cost/benefit assessment might have been real.

Every year. Same speech I’m glad he doesn’t want to get take advantage of but he needs to learn asset management. He also needs to stop trading within the division. And stop being so nice to agents and other teams

Gotta love our “aggressive” GM. Every...single...year!

Every year. Same speech I’m glad he doesn’t want to get take advantage of but he needs to learn asset management. He also needs to stop trading within the division. And stop being so nice to agents and other teams A lot of what you call "asset management" is just plain luck, unless you think the FO should be telling the coaching staff who to play and how many minutes. You think they should have tried to build Plumlee's value by playing him 25 minutes/game at the expense of minutes for Jokic or Millsap or Grant? The luck is who gets injured when, or who gets hot and when. Over the past decade, there have been many seasons where the Nuggets' trade options dwindled because they lost positional redundancy because of injuries. For example, there were a series of seasons in which Gallo or Chandler had major injuries, eliminating significant trade opportunities. This season, Beasley and Juancho -- obvious trade candidates -- both shot the ball relatively poorly, diminishing their trade value. Harris, another trade candidate in a theoretical bigger deal, is shooting below 40% overall and below 30% on threes, well below his career averages. I would have preferred to move Beasley in the summer (after signing Terrance Davis in July), but from reports the team tried negotiating an extension until shortly before the extension deadline (which I think was Oct. 19). It wasn't until 9/23 that it was reported that Beasley switched his representation to Klutch Sports, so it appears a lot was changing very close to the start of training camp, and by that time teams were firming up their rosters and not really making trades. It seems clear the team wanted to extend and keep Malik and after extended negotiations his contract demand simply exceeded what they were willing to pay him. The only big trade I would have really been excited about this season was Holiday, a former allstar (2013) and first team all-defense player (2018), and the cost for that big swing was always going to be Porter, and we've been told that was a hard NO from Stan Kroenke.

not many fans would have supported trading Beasley in the summer. hindsight I'm one of those people. I still would have preferred to keep Beasley ... IF he was going to get a legitimate shot. I don't think anybody here would be upset with trading Beasley in the offseason if we knew he was going to average 12 MPG in November and 16 MPG in December. Had we not run into injuries it's likely he never even gets the burn he was getting lately. Beasley was playing awful to start the season, but we've seen Malone give Harris a shot. That's my only issue. Malone/TC needed to be on the same page. GM's forcing coaches hands is pretty toxic IMO but if Malone wasn't going to give Beasley a long leash and a bigger role than he needed to be traded in the offseason. TC offered Beasley 10 mill after 1 good season so I wanted to keep him because I had assumed after that he was going to play a large role on this team. Malone clearly didn't think so, which is fine, because were great without Beasley and even as a big fan I fully admit he has major flaws and could bust out hard. I think TC has done a great job, and Malone the past 2 seasons has turned a major corner, but with all the depth/players we've had there needed to be a better plan managing them. If Beasley wasn't going to play 24+ MPG, especially with Harris struggling, than why bother holding him to the deadline? For fans/media it's hindsight .. it shouldn't have been for Malone/TC.

Masai/Morey would have gotten the trade done

Masai/Morey would have gotten the trade done let's say the target was Gallo Presti's starting point with Riley/Heat was an unprotected 1st. Morey's been off the rails so he might've done it but no way Masai would've.

I think there’s going to be a fire sale in Portland and Washington this summer - so - I’m pretty sure a combo of NO asking for too much (3 firsts), combined with the possibility of getting Beal or CJ, caused our fo to stand pat.

Regarding Beasley -
Now I’m starting to see what our FO saw.
Dude is on IG this week criticizing people for accusing his baby mama of cheating - then at a press conference declaring that the wolves will be the best team in the west.
With toxic displays of this nature, you better be shooting 65% on your threes.

I think we're a better team, assuming Harris is involved for CJ Mac, but we'd have arguably the worst starting defensive backcourt in the league

CJ is f***ing good. And on an advantageous contract, considering his skill. Would love to have him.
