Malone won't be the coach that puts us back into the playoffs. Keep him in this year to continue to develop players but if we are serious about making the playoffs then we gotta bring in someone else next summer.

Malone is definitely not a playoff-caliber coach right now. Has no focus on rotations and team has no ID. He could get better as a HC. Bright, articulate, well-liked.
But he needs to start feeling some heat soon if this team doesn't start to rack up wins. ATM, he reminds me of Jeff Bzdelick when he was here.

Its hilarious to hear that Malone isnt a playoff calibre coach. What is a playoff calibre coach?
This last game was a poor preformance from Malone, but cant really only blame him as players refuse to show up

Its hilarious to hear that Malone isnt a playoff calibre coach. What is a playoff calibre coach? This last game was a poor preformance from Malone, but cant really only blame him as players refuse to show up I think it's both. You can't blame Malone for the team getting in a hole because those turnovers in the first quarter was murder. But once we got back on even terms we had the opportunity to win but having Faried (who got scored on about 40 times by Morris then Drummond) on for so long I think cost us the game. I know Jokic and Nurkic didn't have good games but given Faried got scored on almost every possession he probably should've tried mixing it up. It's not like he was key to the offence at that point. Malone has obviously got a win first mentality which has come at the cost of Nurkic's and Jokic's minutes. However since we haven't been winning it's kind been pointless. Now this isn't actually a knock on Malone, he's in a really tough situation (probably has pressure on him to win and a stupidly deep roster), it's more just a reflection on what has actually happened. The Wolves have been going the opposite way and prioritising youth and development (KAT 35 mpg, LaVine 35mpg, Wiggins 35mpg, Dieng 30mpg even Dunn and Tyus Jones are playing 20mpg) and yet they're 2-6, just 1 win less and like us have lost quite a few close games. In fact after tomorrow they could have a better record than the Nuggets if the Nuggets lose and they beat the Lakers (another team playing a lot of youth successfully).

Its hilarious to hear that Malone isnt a playoff calibre coach. What is a playoff calibre coach? Good question. To me, a good "playoff-caliber" coach is one who 1) has his team playing its toughest defense late in games, 2) establishes a team identity, 3) sticks with a rotation plan for more than two consecutive games, 4) knows the strengths of his team and emphasizes them. Malone fails on all four counts right now. I hope he gets better, because what we see right now won't get the job done unless we have overwhelmingly top-end talent. Scotty Brooks in OKC had that, and he was probably no better of a HC at the time than Malone is now. But Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, etc masked that. We don't have the talent to mask Malone's current shortcomings. Again, I hope he grows in his job. I like him.

i thought he had a much better game tonight, outside of giving Gee a shot in the 4th

I agree, besides playing Nelson so much.
It's not his fault that Gallo kept missing open jumpers and Chandler can't hit a free throw at the end of games.

i thought he had a much better game tonight, outside of giving Gee a shot in the 4th Honestly if we were actually winning I wouldn't have a problem with him overplaying veterans and neglecting the young players but reality is, we're not actually winning. As it stands we have the same wins as the Kings, Wolves and Suns. Anyhow at this point, the reason why I am hard on Malone is that he is really wasting this season. Like does anyone give a s**t about Gallo, WC, Faried, Nelson etc. playing at the end of close losses? For example it's already too late for Chandler who once again missed an important FT so it's really set in stone that he will never become a reliable closer.

Fun fact our two highest DRPM players are Nurkic and Jokic. Can anyone guessed what happened to our defensive efficiency after we moved Faried back to the starting lineup?

Last night's game (Toronto) wasn't on Malone. Everyone was shooting poorly. Chandler was playing great in the 2nd half and Malone stayed with him. Everyone bitching about Jokic- he played most of the OT except when Malone switched offense and defensive squads late in FT situations, which is what coaches usually do. Jokic played more than Nurkic btw, even though imo he was pretty bad on D. Mudiay looks to have cleaned up his act- so he got the message. Murray and Juancho got minutes. No Barton or Garris so he went with Nelson, which I'd rather not see but what's he supposed to do? Despite all of that we were a missed FT away from a win.
Dunno, I'm not seeing what he did all that wrong.

That Malone quote about Jokic annoys me. Ill Will and Gallo are high character guys, solid NBA players, but they are not nor will ever be super stars. Gallo has a waaaay outside chance of making an All-Star team and that is it. Jokic has a higher ceiling. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

More to do with the direction of this team.
Rebuilding, we are not doing. Apart from Mudiay who hasn't really developed, the young guys are not playing.
Winning, we are not doing. We are riding on the coat tails of Gallo, Chandler and Faried at the moment. Again these guys are not winning. So this has come at the expense of the young guys we should actually care about. Like I said, would have no problem with this if we were actually winning. But we are not.
I don't actually know why everyone is using the youth excuse.
