neocon death merchants like Dick Cheney and his spawn (90% voting record with Trump) only hate Trump because he makes the US look the countries they're trying to regime change. the US needs a veneer of respectability and authority to lord over the rest of the planet, and Trump denies them that cover.

I appreciate that these folks have turned against Trump, but I’m not all in on the liberal love for this group. I want to know what remains appealing about the US Republican Party to people like Michael Steele, who are still members of that party. Is it opposition to environmental laws, giving manufacturing industries free rein to pollute? Or is it opposition to labor laws (the Republican Party opposes more or less all of them), so that corporations can lawfully discriminate on the basis of race (as in Michael Steele’s race), gender, age, religion etc. Is it the Republican party’s opposition to social security and Medicare? At a time when American income/wealth concentration is more extreme than it was in 1900, when most Americans (like most people everywhere on earth) were poor, is the appeal that the Republican Party wants to use government policy to push that distribution even further in that direction? I’m happy that all of these folks are against Donald Trump, but what are they for? I don’t think really any liberals love this group, though. It’s their standing up to Trump and Trumpism that they love. At least that’s what I love, and that it. Their low taxes, low regulation, limited government traditional GOP ideology is something I’ve never voted for, as I said earlier. But this Trump era is the worst the GOP has given America since the McCarthy era. It is absolutely toxic to our democracy, and pits Americans against Americans. We have to look at the Never-Trumpers and other GOPers who haven’t endorsed (even if they are too timid to endorse Harris) as allies in a cause to defeat a dangerous party that is led by the most dangerous man in U.S. political history.

This election isn’t about neocon death merchants, so I don’t care about their motives. It’s about stopping a uniquely terrible era of American history by destroying Trump politically, and the fascist movement behind him. We will deal with the neocons later.

Never mind regarding what? Regarding anyone posting on NT? Thought I’d break a nearly 24 hour streak with no posts. I got fooled by a fake blue check Twitter account that posted something humorous on another forum. Then I realized it was a fake account and the blue checkmarks don't actually mean anything anymore, so I edited it out.

It’s easy to get fooled these days since Elon Musk removed all meaning from the blue check mark. Musk has also removed any doubt that he’s a sane and sober human being.

If i was american i would get used to the idea that the election is pretty pointless and no matter who wins, banks, big oil, big weapons and big pharma will decide whats best for the people. Forever wars definitely is best for «the people». If only the people could realize the power they have. Hence why I don't get how people can be crazy passionate about politics. Giant Douche. Turd Sandwich. That's what the US elections typically are. It's an absolute joke and the 2 party system is ruining this country as both parties are filled with the absolute scum of the Earth. People pretending like the country has been thriving under Biden are full of s**t, just like the people who said it was thriving pre-COVID due to Trump. Democrats don't care about the majority of US people but lie and claim they do. Republicans don't care about the majority of US people but at least make it fairly clear. Gun to my head I think Trump is probably winning in November but I really do believe it's a coinflip. Trump will always do better than the polls suggest because there are a bunch of silent voters that won't make it known publicly that they support him or will vote for him. But there are a bunch of those voters and I think that will be the difference in this election due to how poorly perceived the economy is under Biden/Harris. Perception becomes reality.

You sound so cynical for a 30 year-old (33, IIRC). I’m a few months from 71, and I’ve lived long enough to see this country in MUCH worse shape, economically, than it is now. In terms of societal divisions, it’s as bad now as it was in 1968, the first year I really paid attention to politics. It was a tumultuous year, wracked by the Vietnam war and nationwide protests. Sadly, Nixon won by a hair, but he would be considered a liberal by today’s standards. The Overton window has moved so far to the right the past 40 years, it’s ridiculous. Now, America is an oligarchy, or what I call a “militaristic corporatocracy”. Usually, I might be cynical like you are, but Trump and Trumpism pose a unique threat. It’s neither liberal nor conservative. It’s fascist. The Christofascists and cowardly traditional Republicans like Mitch McConnell make the movement viable. This one time, I hope that people who’ve seen the horrors of a Trump term will either stay home or vote for Harris. I think Harris wins, btw, by 5% margin in national popular vote and over 300 EV’s. But I am being an optimist in giving benefit of the doubt to the electorate and thinking turnout differences between Harris and Trump voters will make the difference.

It's an absolute joke and the 2 party system is ruining this country Ranked Choice Voting is a very powerful antidote to this problem. Gives people the freedom to vote for their #1 candidate without the fear that it's a vote for their worst-case of the major party candidates. Basic explanation of some different versions of this idea: Single Transferrable Vote: www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8XOZJkozfI Alternative Vote System: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y3jE3B8HsE

I’d also get rid of gerrymandering. None of this will happen.

I view RCV as a necessary step before I'd be willing to do those other things. The reason we have things like the electoral college and voting districts (which are sometimes gerrymandered) is to try to mimic a sort of proportional representation, so that you can't just have a slightly more populous subgroup win 52-48 in every direct vote and then have disproportionate power. It doesn't really work the way it should, but eliminating those things while retaining first past the post would be worse. But put in RCV to select multiple representatives, and we get subgroup representation without gerrymandering, spoilers, and other shenanigans.

Just another close friend of Donald Trump's. You know, like Jeffrey Epstein or Michael Jackson.

Portland cleared up their ownership and arena issues and has been granted a WNBA expansion franchise to begin play in the 2026 season.
They will share ownership with the Portland NWSL team and they'll share Moda Center with the Trailblazers.
The WNBA also said they intend to expand to 16 by the 2028 season (possibly 2027 if all goes well).
