Orlando, FL -- The Orlando Magic have obtained a future second round draft selection from the Denver Nuggets, in exchange for Don Reid and future draft considerations, General Manager John Gabriel announced today. “This maneuver allows us to address our recent draft selections, while creating additional flexibility in regard to our current roster,” said Gabriel. “Don Reid is a true team player and fulfilled every role we asked of him, but obviously with the number of players at his position, playing time for the coming season would be at a premium." Reid (6’8”, 250, 12/30/73) played in 68 games for the Magic in 2001-02, averaging 3.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.65 blocks. Originally signed as a free-agent by Orlando in August of 2000, Reid has seen action in 402 NBA games with Orlando, Detroit and Washington, averaging 3.6 points and 2.9 rebounds. The Georgetown graduate entered the NBA as the 58th and last pick of the 1995 Draft. www.hoopsworld.com/article_717.shtml

Not sure why we do this deal, but it doesn't cost much and he can apparently provide minutes at both PF and C. He sounds like an older Donnel.

Here's the correct report, straight from the Nugs PR office.
-------------------------------------------------
The Denver Nuggets acquired forward Don Reid and a future first round selection from the Orlando Magic in exchange for the Nuggets' second round pick in 2004, General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe announced today. "This move enables us to stockpile a future first round selection and gives us another solid big man for our frontcourt," Vandeweghe said. Reid, 6-8, 250, played in 68 games last season for the Magic, averaging 3.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg and 0.65 bpg. Originally the 58th selection in the 1995 NBA Draft by Detroit, Reid played collegiately at Georgetown from '91-95.
The 29-year old has appeared in 402 NBA regular-season games in his career. He played with the Pistons from '95-00, finishing the '99-00 season with Washington, before signing as a free agent with the Magic prior to '00-01. Reid has also appeared in 15 playoff games in his career.
The Nuggets will acquire the first round selection owed to Orlando by the Los Angeles Clippers in a previous deal in 2000. The pick will be protected 1-21 in 2003, 1-15 in 2004, 1-14 in 2005 and unprotected in 2006.

The first round pick is the most intriguing part of this trade to me. Good job Kiki.

so - its about as free as a first round pick as you can get in the nba true is that. kiki is the opposite of issel - he stockpiles 1st rounders instead of giving them away.

who has the decision on the pick - us or them? man i hope its us. if it were issel i know its them. but this is kiki.
its also the clips pick! not the magics! great news. the clips will be great now and if the pick is outside 21 in 2003, the magic would be smart to give it to us. after that the clips are gonna fall (we will sign all their players).

Ain't it the truth. This kinda' sorta' makes up for the Omar Cook debacle...with the same team I believe. They owed us one.

I am sure this is a luxury tax move on the part of the Magic. They are hanging around the threshhold right now, and moving Reid and replacing him with a minimum player will give the Magic some room to sign someone with the mid-level.
Get ready to see alot more trades like this next year if we can not sign max FA's. Teams will be looking to move salary and we will be able to stock up on players and picks.
