I am sure this is a luxury tax move on the part of the Magic. They are hanging around the threshhold right now, and moving Reid and replacing him with a minimum player will give the Magic some room to sign someone with the mid-level. Get ready to see alot more trades like this next year if we can not sign max FA's. Teams will be looking to move salary and we will be able to stock up on players and picks. BINGO!!! this is the advantage of cap space even if you cannot sign a player! i wonder if orlando goes after keon?

I don't get why Orlando did this deal... a great deal for us imo.

Orlando needed cap room and the Nuggets wanted a 1st round pick. So Stan bought a 1st round draft pick for 1.1M! Gotta love an owner with cash!!!

Don Reid is Zendon Hamilton Part II for those of you that aren't familiar with his game. I would be disappointed if Reid were to make it on to the non IR team this season because he will be taking a spot that could be used for Donnell or Andersen.
Forget trading Poz to the Wiz for a pick, I think that Posey will step it up this year, I just have a feeling that all this trade talk is really motivating him. Worst case we hang on to him and he walks at the end of the summer, but I think that we will not lose Poz empty handed. Would you guys deal Donnell or Andersen for a first rounder?

This is the same Don Reid who started off in Detroit?
IF so, then this trade is all about 2nd +$$$ = 1st rnd pick...
and I like it.

I'm not sure whether I like the sound of Jaric's personality.
Egroves, I was under the impression that last year it was a top 5 pick protected. Milwaukee still had the option of giving it to us or not.
Which leads me to believe that this year it may be top 3 or 1.

id settle for top 1 protected even though its james. id just hate for the bucks to suck again (not likely but still) and then we still dont get the pick (if it was lotto protected).

I tried to look at all the old articles written when we traded Willis. The only one that I could find said that Milwaukee owes us a "future first round pick". I remember something being said that it was unprotected this year, but apparently, I was wrong.
Maybe we should "Chat with Kiki" about it.... ;D

I follow these draft picks fairly closely and the Milwaukee pick is one of the most secret deals ever.
First I thought it was unprotected after 2002. But now I am reading it is protected. But noone ever says exactly what the protection is.
If anyone gets to chat with Kiki on Friday, ask him about the Mil. pick. Inquiring minds want to know.

I just submitted the question to the Kiki chat, let's see if he answers it.

so most likely we won't get this pick until 2006?
The pick will be protected 1-21 in 2003, 1-15 in 2004, 1-14 in 2005 and unprotected in 2006.
2003- they arent better than 21 so no pick 2004- depends if sterling pays, if does than they will be in the playoffs and we will get the pick that year..But as i see and others he wont pay and they will be in the lottery again....
hey the worst case scenerio is we get it in 2006 when they are in the lottery and they end up winning the lottery...lol
Kiki is doing a good job.....Unlike dan issel who traded away all of our first rd picks for crap

does anyone know if the pick is unprotected, say for example, that the clipps win the championship nex t year... who gets to say it's our pick? Do we have to wait till the clipps offer it? Or can we say, "no thanks, we'll wait until 2006, b*****es"

In almost all cases, the receiving team can not refuse the pick if offered.

there was the time boston chose to take our pick last year to use on kedrick brown instead of waiting for our skita pick this year. so it's not unprecedented, but i'm sure egroves is right and it's far less common for the receiving team to choose.
