Andrew Funk with a chuckfest. What a waste of time it is watching him.

Pick is showing every skill in the book today except the one that will always hold him back. Such a shame because he does have ability. You mean inability to penetrate? Ball handling in general. Anytime someone pressures his dribble he either freezes, passes immediately, or turns it over no matter where he is on the floor.

Well, his inability to penetrate is a result of a high dribble and poor handle. He also doesn’t have any burst.

Nope, but he can definitely play at this level. There's a league somewhere in between the G and the NBA where he can have a long career and make a lot of money. Maybe Taiwan or Australia.

PJ has a lot of skill and athletic ability but the early book on him seems to be that he has trouble defending without fouling, and also rebounding and finishing through contact. The Nugs clearly view him as a center so he'll need to show growth in those areas.
Pick is Pick. Really nice game but I don't think it changes anything.

Pickett with the buzzer beater 3 caps his best game as a pro.

Happy for him after the apparent drastic regression he showed in Summer League and preseason.

Today's lines
Gold win 124-121 over the Windy City Bulls
Pickett: 37 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 4 turnovers, 2 fouls, 13/20 FG, 3/7 3PT, 5/6 3PT, +11 in 40 minutes
Hall: 22 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 1 block, 1 turnover 4 fouls, 8/16 FG, 4/9 3PT, 1/1 FT, +9 in 34 minutes
Will get into averages after a few more games.
Easily the best game of Pickett's pro career. Excellent passing, was able to get to his spots on offense, hit his shots, played solid D. His dribble hasn't improved at all and it doesn't look like it ever will, but this was a fun performance to watch anyway and it was good to see him believing in himself again after that horrific Summer League and preseason.
PJ has to stay out of foul trouble, first and foremost. Kid has some skills and the right attitude but I don't know if he has the size to consistently finish at the rim or grab rebounds playing as a C. He was marked as a PF/C coming out of college but it seems clear the Nuggets view him as a center. It's early days so we'll see if he shows the growth he needs to show.
I really hope we send Trey and Jones down soon. Trey is the youngest and most raw guy on the squad; he's the one who could most use these minutes right now.

Why isn’t trey Alexander playing with the gold?

Why isn’t trey Alexander playing with the gold? There isn't a good reason. It was understandable to keep him with the Nugs as an emergency option when Jamal was out but if all four of our rotation guards are healthy Trey should definitely be in Grand Rapids. As it stands, we've already burned 10 of the 50 games Trey is allowed to dress for in the NBA this season. Really, really questionable decision making there. I realize there's a low chance of him helping us at any point this season anyway, but right now we're wasting games for absolutely no reason at all. If he can't get into games when Jamal is hurt there's no reason to dress him at all right now. Let him develop in the G-League and see if he makes enough progress to be a decent emergency option down the stretch of the regular season.

Maybe the plan is to showcase Pickett in G-League to entice another GM to trade for him, and they think Trey’s presence would cannibalize Pickett’s performance and numbers. May not be a fruitful endeavor, but its one possible explanation.

If we can all see Pickett can't dribble so can all the other GMs in the NBA. Nobody is gonna be tricked into trading for him by a couple nice G-League statlines.

A lot of dumb GMs out there, especially in the Eastern Conference. If all he costs is a second round pick in 2029 or something like that, it could happen. Remember all teams need to spend at 90% of the salary cap. That’s the floor. I should get on Spotrac to see which teams are under the floor and have an open roster spot.

Only one team is below the cap and has an open roster spot. Detroit.

One thing to keep in mind if you follow the G-League is that your quality of opposition will vary wildly on a nightly basis depending on how many NBA guys each team is sending up or down at that point in time.
For example, there were two games last year where the Gold suited up Julian Strawther, Jay Huff, Collin Gillespie, Hunter Tyson, Jalen Pickett, and Braxton Key. A full starting 5 and a 6th man of end-of-bench NBA guys. There were other games where they suited up zero of those guys and relied only on the full time Gold roster. The swing isn't typically that extreme but on any given night your opponent could have anywhere from 0 to 4 NBA dudes suiting up.

No chance of me watching the Gold tomorrow as the Nugs and Avs are playing and there's also multiple boxing cards on at the same time, but I'll post the statlines.
Spencer Jones should make his debut so we'll see what he's got.
