It's that time of the year again. The G-League season started yesterday and, as usual, the Grand Rapids Gold took a loss. The Windy City Bulls beat them 117-112.
I didn't watch this one so all I really have is the box score.
Jalen Pickett:
24 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 2 fouls, 5 turnovers, 10/21 FG, 3/7 3PT, 1/1 FT, -12 in 40 minutes
PJ Hall:
18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, 7 fouls, 3 turnovers, 5/13 FG, 1/2 3PT, 3/4 FT, -1 in 37 minutes
First of all, I didn't even know you were allowed 7 fouls in the G-League. So nice job PJ, I guess. He had foul troubles in Summer League as well. Hopefully he can settle down a bit.
Lots of turnovers for our guys too. Pickett -12 in a 5 point loss, while the squad was +9 in 26 minutes with Jamir Young on the floor.
Rebounding in the G-League continues to be easy mode.
They have another game tomorrow. Hopefully we see Trey and Spencer Jones sent down soon. Trey is the one I'm most interested to see this year.

Raw stats in the G can be very misleading, especially rebounds which are super easy to come by. The part to focus on there I think is the 5 turnovers and being -12 playing 40 minutes in a 5 point loss while his backup was +9. |

Mostly watching the Broncos but I have the Gold game on a second screen. Pickett is making some fantastic passes out there but his dribble has not improved at all. Still relying on secondary ball handlers and/or having to turn his back to the basket and back people down at the half court line.
Defense has been nonexistent so far but PJ had a nice dunk.

That quarter was a perfect example of why G-League box scores can be deceiving. Pickett finished with 5 assists to 1 turnover but his ballhandling was pretty much dreadful.
