If the NBA game is going to be teams taking 60 3s on a nightly basis going forward...that's just a shitty viewing experience. Sucks.

it's great for the Nuggets, I don't know why everyone is complaining.
let them employ the same strategy I use in NBA2K as we Jokic-ball them to death in the playoffs. execution will always > chucking. just stay healthy.

Minny didn't look good at all. Edwards was pretty trash. Sucks the Nuggets don't play till Thursday but really curious to see what OKC looks like. If Chet/Williams take another step they'll be pretty nasty. Jokic will always be a bad matchup for them but can see them grabbing the 1 seed if everything goes right. Hartenstein being out is a pretty big deal as the Thunder now have to guard Jokic with Chet. I think the 1/2 seed race will be exactly as it was last year. OKC 1 and Denver 2. I still can't figure out exactly why so many people are down on the Nuggets. Their top 4 guys are back. They lost KCP, Justin Holiday and Reggie Jackson. They gained Russell Westbrook, Julian Strawther and Dario Saric. I just don't see how that swap makes them go from a 2 seed to a 5/6 seed like people are predicting. Losing KCP is somewhat tough from a spacing standpoint but at the same time, if Strawther makes a leap he could easily be a high volume 37-38% 3 point shooter. He becomes a better offensive version of KCP and Braun becomes a more versatile defensive version. Ring, you haven’t made a bold prediction yet, last I checked. In case you missed the thread, most predictions are for Nuggets to win the championship. How the heck are you finding 5/6 seed is what people are predicting?!? Only I made the 5-seed prediction, lol. You are describing a best-case scenario with Strawther, who as promising as he’s looked in preseason and summer league, is entirely unproven in an NBA regular season. Reggie Jackson played 82 games. KCP wasn’t far behind. Holiday was valuable late in season and in playoffs. These are guards, and your excuse for why we will be fine is Saric? Strawther? Westbrook? I agree Russ has something left in the tank. But he’s about 36, and won’t come close to playing Jackson’s number of minutes. He will be better than RJ on a per-minute basis, I will concede. But not as a floor spacer. Saric is a backup big, so he doesn’t address our guard shortage. Strawther, I just commented on. Lots of Hopium on NT, with so many predicting our second chip. I don’t see it happening at all without more veteran guards, or at least one more.

And both Strawther and Braun are better then Reggie Jackson, while Russ gives us the rim threat drives we lacked last year and Saric gives us a legit offensive big which we haven't had for a while.

If healthy I don't see how this years team isn't better than last years team on paper. The lack of guard depth is overblown IMO because as long as Jokic is healthy it offsets a lot of needs from the guard. He thrived with Facu Campazzo and Austin Rivers. I think people are going to be very pleasantly surprised at Julian Strawther this year. I really believe in him.

We went from 6 playable NBA guards to 4, and 3 of them were hurt last year. It's not complicated.

There is no team in the NBA that would be successful if 3 of their top 4 guards got injured. Guards on the NBA Champion Boston Celtics last year Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Payton Prichard, Jaden Springer, Dalanton Banton, JD Davison.

That's a substantial difference right there. And I'm not saying 3 guys are going to get injured at once. Any one of them getting injured at any point will result in another experiment with Pickett or CB trying to run the second unit. Or trying to run a 6'8" forward as a two guard. Two of them getting injured means we have to make an emergency roster move in the middle of the year and bring in someone who doesn't know our players or system. You're in denial if you think Reggie being forced to limp to the finish line after 82 regular season and 26 starts games didn't make a difference last year. You're in denial if you think KCP wouldn't have taken some extra games off and been more fresh in the playoffs if he didn't have to press down the stretch for playoff seeding. You're in denial if you think Strawther, Westbrook, and Braun are going to miss a combined 6 games this year like Braun, Reggie, and KCP did last year. The fact that you said we "thrived" with Rivers and Facu is some serious selective memory. We made the playoffs off the singular greatness of Nikola Jokic, yes, but those games were excruciating to watch. We severely lacked ball handling, perimeter defense, and three point shooting.

And you could argue those 1-2 losses should be made up for by your starters and bench. Nuggets were completely healthy for that Spurs game and choked away a big lead to one of the worst teams in the league. If Strawther/CB/Watson are all hits this year it won't matter. Nuggets are in championship or bust mode at this point. Build the deepest 1-10 possible.

Embiid has his MVP, his Olympic Gold, and his new contract. He doesn't care what the NBA says and they won't actually do anything to him no matter what the investigation says.
Why don't they "investigate" him being the most dirty, reckless, and dangerous player in the entire NBA? He's a bigger cheap shot artist than Draymond Green and he's a danger to himself and others with his flopping even when he's NOT trying to injure people on purpose.

If Murray/MPJ stay healthy and have good seasons the Nuggets will be a 1 seed. 2 at worst. If they both struggle or get hurt the Nuggets will be in the 5-7 range. Simple as that.

Having elite deep depth isn't enough to offset your 2nd option having a down season. Even when your banged up and they drag down the team you'll always have 10+ things that were more important. I'm personally a believer in the young guys but I do think having a 1st year starter + two young players who aren't proven yet playing legit roles on a contender is risky amd probably less than ideal when you have a player like Jokic in his prime. Having a Holliday would be nice. Swapping Pickett out for someone who could push to be in the rotation if Westbrook doesn't work out here would be ideal but is a pretty big luxury for a team in our situation. I don't care much about adding players who fill those deep bench spots. I think this team has a really high ceiling. 1 seed is likely if everything hits. I think the floor is lower this year tho. Could be some issues that hold the team back but Jokic likely still carries to the 4th seed atleast.

Let's check in on how our departures looked with their new squads today
KCP's magic debut: 3 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers, 1 foul, 0/5 FG, 0/5 3PT, 3/3 FT, +24 in 25 minutes (Magic beat the heat 116-97)
Reggie's Sixers debut: DNP - coach's decision (Sixers lost 124-109)
Jay Huff with some surprise first half minutes for his debut in Memphis (Edey in foul trouble): 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 2 blocks, 0 turnovers, 0 fouls, 2/4 FG, 2/4 3PT, 2/2 FT, +11 in 10 minutes (Grizzlies lead the Jazz 61-50 at halftime)
Suns are keeping all their two-ways inactive for game 1. Makes sense to save those Collin Gillespie and Tyty Washington games while Jones, Morris, Beal, Booker, Allen, and Lee are all healthy and active.
Braxton Key was the last man cut in Clippers camp and is expected to sign with their G-League squad (because he was on an Exhibit 10 contract he gets an 80K bonus if he spends 60 days on their G-League roster, so he'll definitely do that unless some other NBA team calls).
And Justin Holiday remains unsigned.

Yeah, like it bothers me that Pickett/Tyson are on the roster because they have zero path to being NBA players IMO but it is what it is. Nuggets will be in the buyout market again I'm sure. I hope tomorrow is a reminder game for some people. Jokic. Murray. MPJ. AG. Braun. Westbrook. Saric. Watson. Strawther. That's a phenomenal top 9 in my book.

I always liked Huff. Especially with his ability to space the floor.
Never understood why Malone didn't give him a chance as he can give you offense off the bench.
As for KCP, I'm not overreacting to one game but it was time to move on. The Nuggets desperately need guards/wings who can create their own shot so it's time to give Strawther a big chance. And that meant shedding KCP which, given his miserable postseason, is the most overhyped loss this off-season.
