We have to be under the 2nd apron this year. I firmly believe that, because there's no way we're under it next year or the year after.
We can't be over it 3 years in a row. That's franchise poison.

scooter, they are willing to let KCP walk out of principle because they don't want to help a conference rival. this is self-defeating. How do you know that the Mavs would pull the trigger on your proposed deal, which presumably involves picks in the 2030’s?

I think there is a solid chance the RJ deal is prelude to some kind of Micic/Nnaji deal after 7/1. I would love it if the Nuggets could also pry Richards away from the Hornets.

I wouldn't say that as the new TV deal will see a big increase in the cap number that might keep KSE below the 2nd apron even with forthcoming extensions.

This also crossed my mind. I was trying to think of what reason there would be to do it in separate transactions though. If we're still operating as a second apron team until KCP's cap hold is off the books, then maybe it's simply because we can't aggregate salaries and it'd have to be separated. And maybe it makes more sense to do the Zeke trade after the new league year starts? I'm not really sure. Either way I think it's a precursor to some other move regardless.

We don't know how that's going to shake down exactly. It's a moving target. But with Murray's extension and Joker, Gordon, and MPJ still on the books it's unlikely the cap will rise enough in just two years to move the 2nd apron that high. We can control what happens this year, though. And buying that extra year now is huge because it gives us maximum flexibility in the next two seasons. Then, hopefully by the third season after this one the cap will have gone up by enough that it won't be such a restraint.

I also believe a Zeke for Micic swap is distinctly possible. Even if not Micic, Zeke seems destined to be the trade piece Calvin uses to bring in a backup point guard.

Moving Nnaji is subject to the “poison pill provision” (for extended players) until the next fiscal year. Its that simple.

he's going to have to accept the tax player MLE, that's how it's possible. I don't hate it tbh. I always wanted Klay next to Murray and Joker, even in his semi-washed state. Actually, by dumping Reggie for nothing and if KCP walks, Nuggets should fall below the 1st apron now...meaning they could offer the full MLE at around $12 mil/year. Not convinced Klay would accept that amount after being on a max deal but maybe Calvin knows something we don't. Is this legit? Big if true

THJ was just traded to the Pistons, I'm sure a three-team trade could've worked out if the Nuggets were creative enough. I know its currently fashionable to bash the Nuggets’ FO, but while I’m not entirely sold on their talent evaluation, they seem to know what they are doing when it comes to CBA rules and what is feasible. Trades are hard and other teams want to get the better (in some way) of deals they make, so assuming that such and such team would go for some trade we might like to see happen is unrealistic. What? They could just extend KCP? Very feasible No one is forcing them to force inn Booths rookies or signing trash vets like Reggie, DJ or Holiday

Could have won 3-4 rings if done correctly Looking back once we signed jokic, mpj and Murray to those deals, winning multiple titles became impossible. The nba rules just won’t allow teams to have expensive starting lineups and deep teams.

Damn i dont wanna be right about this, but we are stuck with zeke Disagree as Zeke is still young enough on an affordable contract for rebuilding teams to take a chance. Not saying that has to be Charlotte but I'll be shocked if Zeke is still a Nugget by the start of training camp. Way too much smoke around him being traded.

NBA money is nowhere near what it should be NBA is fucked where «stars» whatever that actually is lmao makes way too much more than non stars I still cant believe Lothar and people wanted BB to accept 10mill a year. Just because his name isnt as sexy as MPJ or others Please don't misrepresent my position. What I repeatedly said is that, if the market for BB was a 3/30 deal somewhere else, or a year at 7.8m here that would give him bird rights and let the Nuggets sign him for like 2/26, then he wouldn't even be giving up money, so staying and betting on an extension would be reasonable (but carry injury risk.) And that even if it was more like 3/38 so that he would make like 10% more by leaving (or more in a lower-tax state), the money was similar enough that being in a better situation might be worth taking a moderate discount so I could see him going either way. (I've had plenty of family members turn down big raises to be in a better situation at work. Not NBA-level money, but in the "180k here vs 140k there" range.) When he was offered 2/45 I said he should obviously take that. It wasn't close any more, where the better situation mattered. The money was so much better that of course he should go get the bag. As for the money Jamal, Jaylen Brown, and others are making -- it's just "the max" which is defined based on 25% or 30% of the cap depending on how long they've been playing, or "the supermax" which is 35% and requires things like all-NBA selections. Usually the negotiation on a contract for a player anywhere close to max level is things like a fourth year guarantee or a trade kicker, and the dollar amount is just the 25/30/35% that the CBA qualifies them for. The money only gets negotiated in Bron/Wade/Bosh superteam stuff where the players are architecting the team so they take like 34% each and the extra little bit becomes a slightly-above-minimum exception.

I love how Dallas is desperate to dump THJ and his $18 million and they do it immediately (and get back a decent player too)
But we want to dump zekes $8 million and it’s impossible unless we give up multiple picks
Have we ever had a competent front office? Feels like we are always just way behind and get taken advantage of in every contract and trade.
Other front offices are able to make smart moves and give out reasonable deals. We just hand out overpays, player options, extra picks…whatever the players, agent or other team wants.
