This was, by far, the best I've seen Jalen Pickett look since he became a Nugget (Summer League, preseason, regular season, G-League). He still outran his dribble without a plan a couple times but it didn't lead to any turnovers. All his shots were falling, he was hitting all the right passes, and it didn't hurt that Huff and Tyson and Funk were draining everything too.
In the same vein, this was the Hunter Tyson we saw dominate the Summer League. He had a few dumb defensive lapses and turnovers in the 3rd quarter, but whatever, we were up by 46 points. For the most part he competed and defended at a reasonable level. He stepped into every shot he took with confidence, made good passes. Excellent game.
And the same goes for Huff. He's accustomed to dominating at this level and this was no different.
The Gold win their first game of the year, 134-103.
Pickett: 25 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 1 turnover, 2 fouls, 10/14 FG, 5/8 3PT, 0/0 FT, +35 in 35 minutes
Tyson: 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 5 turnovers, 3 fouls, 9/13 FG, 7/9 3PT, 0/1 FT, +31 in 34 minutes
Huff: 22 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 steals, 4 blocks, 1 turnover, 3 fouls, 8/11 FG, 2/4 3PT, 2/2 FT, +33 in 31 minutes
Not a Nugget, but Andrew Funk hit 8 3s and was a +37 as well.
Season averages
Jalen Pickett (1 game): 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 11.0 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.0 blocks, 1.0 turnover, 2.0 fouls, 71.4% FG, 62.5 3PT, 0/0 FT, +35
Hunter Tyson (5 games): 22.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.2 blocks, 3.6 turnovers, 2.0 fouls, 41.9% FG, 35.9% 3PT, 93.3% FT, -7
Jay Huff (6 games): 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.5 steals, 3.3 blocks, 1.7 turnovers, 3.3 fouls, 63.4% FG, 44.8% 3PT, 83.3% FT, +11

Didn't take long for the good vibes from yesterday's game to go away. Didn't see this one, don't know why Huff only played 21 minutes (looks like foul trouble, hope he didn't get hurt), but damn these are some ugly stat lines. Looks like Pickett's ball handling adventures came back to bite him. 9 turnovers and 4 fouls on a bad shooting night.
The Gold lost 102-92.
Pickett: 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 9 turnovers, 4 fouls, 7/16 FG, 1/7 3PT, 0/0 FT, +2 in 39 minutes
Tyson: 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 1 turnover, 1 foul, 10/21 FG, 3/9 3PT, 1/3 FT, +4 in 42 minutes
Huff: 2 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers, 5 fouls, 0/0 FG, 0/0 3PT, 1/1 FT, -7 in 21 minutes
Season averages
Jalen Pickett (2 games): 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.0 blocks, 5.0 turnovers, 3.0 fouls, 56.7% FG, 40.0% 3PT, 0/0 FT, +37
Hunter Tyson (6 games): 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.7 steals, 0.2 blocks, 3.3 turnovers, 1.8 fouls, 43.0% FG, 35.4% 3PT, 83.3% FT, -3
Jay Huff (7 games): 17.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.7 steals, 3.1 blocks, 1.7 turnovers, 3.6 fouls, 63.4% FG, 44.8% 3PT, 84.6% FT, +4

Hopefully Tyson is just shaking off bad nerves and finding his game. I appreciate your reports on this - cool to know how development is going for the rookies.

More worried about Pickett at the moment. 9 turnovers in a G-League game is alarming.

Will have two statlines to post tomorrow. Tonight CG played 42 minutes in a 10 point loss and was only -1

Falling a bit behind on the updates, will have 3 games worth of statlines later today.
Jay Huff is in street clothes on the sidelines again today. Not sure why he isn't playing but he's with the team in Grand Rapids.
CG with 5/3/6 and 1 TO early.

CG with a big triple double today, plus 13 assists in his previous game. His shot is just a degree off. Everything is just barely rimming out. But his passing, his ball handling, his vision? Absolutely night and day compared to Pick.
Key looks quite comfortable at this level, which is expected given his experience.
Huff is with the Gold but not playing for some reason. Not sure if he's hurt or what but he's in street clothes with the squad.
My totals/averages have been updated significantly as the G-League likes to change stats a couple days later (add an assist, remove a FGA, add a TO, etc).
Today's game: The Gold won 123-102
Gillespie: 11 points, 11 rebounds, 17 assists, 3 steals, 0 blocks, 4 turnovers, 3 fouls, 5/15 FG, 1/8 3PT, 0/0 FT, +12 in 36 minutes
Key: 33 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 0 blocks, 3 turnovers, 3 fouls, 14/17 FG, 1/3 3PT, 3/4 FT, +14 in 33 minutes
12/8: The Gold lost 119-109
Gillespie: 27 points, 8 rebounds, 13 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 5 turnovers, 2 fouls, 10/21 FG, 3/9 3PT, 2/3 FT, -1 in 42 minutes
Key: 24 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 5 turnovers, 4 fouls, 8/17 FG, 0/3 3PT, 5/5 FT, -10 in 35 minutes
12/6: The Gold lost 123-112
Pickett: 13 points, 3 rebounds, 16 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, 0 turnovers, 5 fouls, 5/16 FG, 3/7 3PT, 0/1 FT, -10 in 44 minutes
Tyson: 29 points, 7 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 1 turnover, 2 fouls, 9/20 FG, 2/7 3PT, 6/7 FT, -5 in 42 minutes
Huff: 35 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 3 turnovers, 2 fouls, 13/22 FG, 4/10 3PT, 3/3 FT, -11 in 34 minutes
Season Averages
Hunter Tyson (7 games): 23.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.1 blocks, 3.0 turnovers, 1.9 fouls, 42.6% FG, 33.9% 3PT, 84.0% FT, -12
Jay Huff (8 games): 19.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals, 3.4 blocks, 1.9 turnovers, 3.4 fouls, 62.4% FG, 43.6% 3PT, 87.5% FT, -35
Jalen Pickett (3 games): 17.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 12.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.3 blocks, 3.3 turnovers, 3.7 fouls, 47.8% FG, 40.9% 3PT, 0.0% FT, +27

Pickett seemed to do a Jekyll/Hyde thing. 1 TO, then 9 TOs, then 0 TOs in his 3 games. He's commiting too many fouls, though.
30 assists in 2 games for CG is incredible. Not shooting well but he's rebounding and defending.

With everyone healthy they don't really need to keep Tyson up with the main squad in my opinion.
They should be running PG: Gillespie SG: Funk SF: Tyson PF: Key C: Huff
As the G-League starting 5 for several weeks (until CG and Key have missed enough Nugs games that they don't have to worry about hitting their 50 game maximums).
Leave Pick with the main squad as the emergency PG. After CG gets under his limit, switch him out with Pickett and let Pick finish the G-League season as their everyday starter.

Fami - do you feel like CG's play is improving as time goes on? Like showing better health, etc?

Fami - do you feel like CG's play is improving as time goes on? Like showing better health, etc? He does seem a bit quicker than when the season started. I'm just waiting for his shot to start falling. I think most people feel like that's his best asset and we haven't seen it consistently yet.

To me that means his legs are still weak - but good signs overall! He's improving

CG with a smooth deep 3. Giannis sitting courtside to watch his brother Alex.

Gold don't know what to do on defense. Somehow the Herd are ending up with their center switched onto CG or Pick every time down the court. Still winning because they're hitting all their shots, though.

Gold just have too much offensive talent for these guys with 4 NBA dudes on the court. They may be fringe NBA guys but Tyson, Pickett, Key, and CG are way better than these other G-Leaguers. Too bad Huff is still out, apparently it's his ribs again.

Stingy scorekeeper tonight. Gold have 51 points on 32 shots but the scorekeeper has only awarded 8 total assists. Should be more like 15.

Indeed, they added an assist to the totals of CG, Tyson, and Funk at halftime.

Herd punishing our size in the 3rd quarter. We're essentially running 3 6'4" or smaller guards and two swing forwards. Can't keep anybody out of the paint.

20 point lead has eroded to 3 heading into the 4th.
Gold have 83 points; 74 of them from Tyson/Pickett/Key/Gillespie.
