Denver Outlaws back from the dead next weekend. Waited four years for this. Something to distract me from how bad the Rockies are until I can start getting mad again about how bad the Broncos are.
Outlaws had the #1 pick and used it on what everyone thinks will be a surefire elite talent out of the gate, Brennan O'Neill. In 2023 he won the NCAA MVP and the most outstanding player award from the World Lacrosse Championship Team USA gold medal winners.
Regular season schedule: Game 1 in Albany vs Charlotte Chaos, June 2, 11:00 AM MT ESPN+ Game 2 in Charlotte vs Utah Archers, June 7, 6:30 PM MT ESPN+ Game 3 in Minneapolis vs California Redwoods, June 29, 4:00 PM MT ESPN2, ESPN+ Game 4 in Boston vs New York Atlas, July 5, 6:30 PM MT ESPN+ Game 5 in Fairfield, CT vs Philadelphia Waterdogs, July 19, 4:00 PM MT ESPN+ Game 6 in San Diego vs Boston Cannons, July 27, 3:30 PM MT ESPN+ Game 7 in Baltimore vs California Redwoods, August 3, 1:30 PM MT ESPN+ Game 8 in Denver vs Maryland Whipsnakes, August 9, 6:00 PM MT ESPN+ Game 9 in Denver vs Charlotte Chaos, August 10, 5:00 PM MT ESPN2, ESPN+ Game 10 in Salt Lake City vs Utah Archers, August 17, 7:00 PM MT ESPN2, ESPN+
Also, Colorado Mammoth forward Zed Williams is in NFL training camp with the Buffalo Bills at the moment. He received a tryout as a linebacker. He is considered a longshot to make the roster but hasn't been cut yet. Crazy that a guy who hasn't stepped onto a football field since high school and already plays professionally in two different versions of lacrosse could just walk onto an NFL field and compete for a job. He plays for the Whipsnakes in the PLL and has won championships with both the Whipsnakes and the Mammoth. Honestly the Mammoth are boned without this guy but for his own sake I hope he makes it; the NFL minimum salary would probably still be about 4-5X what he makes playing lacrosse between both leagues and sponsorships.

Magness is still the perfect fit for a WNBA team. Perfect capacity, and such a great arena! In the scenario they go to the playoffs, those games potentially move to Ball Arena then.
Parking issues be damned. These same issues arose when the Padres planted Petco Field in the middle of downtown SD (ditto for Oracle in SF). People figured it out. There's a light rail station at DU. Good enough.
If Magness got the team too, you have the support of the college kids. It's really a win-win. I see the WNBA team filling more seats in Magness than in Ball.
I personally think the last two teams will go to Portland and Nashville. Both towns are starved for more sports. I just don't see Denver showing-out for a WNBA team.
I will say tho - I am STUNNED that Mammoth games attract 15K fans per game. That's incredible for a non-major sport. So who knows? Maybe a prosperous future awaits the WNBA in Denver.

nothing wrong with DU- unless the school dont want it,,, there plenty of parking around the area- I still dont think they would draw more than 5,000.

The college kids are at home for most of the WNBA season. 2. More than 60% of the arena for DU hockey and basketball is filled by college students who don't drive. A WNBA squad would be drawing all families because there ain't nobody on campus. There is absolutely not enough parking in the DU neighborhood. And the Padres didn't really "figure it out"; historically they draw terribly and are only drawing decently right now because the team is ridiculously good with a ridiculously high payroll. In an average season they can't draw flies. 3. The WNBA is reluctant to put more teams in the South (they will if they have no other options) because it's a league of women who are far more likely to be queer than the general population. The players don't want to live in a place where their reproductive rights could be in question and their sexual orientation could cause backlash. 4. Mammoth haven't drawn 15K since before COVID. More like 10-12K recently.

If the WNBA would have approved the arena the team would have been approved and they'd be starting next year with the Golden State Valkyries. The Commissioner of the league flew here to meet with the owners, the Governor, the Mayor, and tour Magness and Ball Arena. She vetoed Magness as a possibility and the parking situation is literally the dealbreaker. She also vetoed the Coliseum without even visiting it. The only building that would be approved is Ball Arena. Nobody in history is parking with their family of four and walking 15 minutes to get into the game. You're nuts.

Oh my God u have too walk 15 min lol, how much f***ing parking u need ? Show me were that was the reason lol You're insane if you think this if remotely acceptable: Parking is a problem for people even for DU hockey and basketball events, and that's with most of the seats being taken up by on-campus students. Magness holds 7200 for basketball. So far this year only 4 WNBA teams have drawn less than 7200 to a game and 3 of those are because the team plays in a building smaller than that.

It's f***in parking lol, u think that's the main reason , hell people/ family walk 15 min too ball arena.. u just pointed the real reason, it's too small ,, Atlanta plays in a 3500 seat building, Washington in a 4200 seat building, Dallas in a 7000 seat building. Given that the lease would essentially be free with an owner on the DU board of trustees, I really don't think venue size is the issue. I think the issue is if they were to sell out 20 home games that's 20 nights of 7200 people in that little DU neighborhood. The venue is set up to mostly be filled by students that live on campus. Look at the difference in parking between Magness and Ball: Ball holds 2.7X what Magness holds for basketball, but the amount of parking is WAY more than 3X what Magness has available. And much closer to the venue. Ball has 7 lots with a footprint as big as or bigger than the venue itself, plus three smaller lots. And it's much better equipped to handle the traffic.

The wnba don't want small arenas, parking is not holding us back, that would like 3,000 extra car in the area off University and i-25

She could have just vetoed it without even checking like she did with the Coliseum. She knew it only held 7200 seats before she came to Colorado, she has Wikipedia. But she chose to take a tour of the campus anyway. It's the parking. I lived within a mile of DU for 20 years. That neighborhood has problems dealing with parking even for DU events where most of the crowd lives on campus. It would be twice as bad for WNBA games in the middle of the summer.

terrible news.
always had a tremendous love for Bill for keeping the Spirit of the 60's alive, when most of his Boomer generation discarded their Hippie beliefs long ago and embraced Ayn Rand style 'selfishness is a virtue' style capitalism instead. always looked at Bill as a glimmer of hope that at one time, a different world was possible.
one of my favorite moments is watching the Grateful Dead perform in front of the pyramid of Giza in Egypt and suddenly seeing Bill Walton's curly blond fro grooving along.

DU hockey traffic is bad enough but the venue holds more for basketball and if they sold it out without any on-campus people that's probably more than double the amount of traffic impact and parking. If you lived near the venue you'd absolutely hate it on game nights. No couple with two kids under 5 wants to park 15 minutes away and walk. Nobody who brings grandma to the game wants to take the lightrail and pack into those sardine cans with 500 people and then walk to the venue. A WNBA team will still be competing for market attention with the Rockies, Rapids, Outlaws, and in most years Nuggets/Avs/Mammoth playoffs at the start of the season. If you make it a pain in the ass to park your car at the venue, families will go watch the Rockies lose instead.

Many family take the light rail or walk at ball arena unless u want to pay $60 plus for close in parking , 3000 more cars t in that area not going that much an impact on traffic,, if that their main concern that's dumb , the arena I bet needs major up dates ,, like locker rooms , etc. and where is this team going to train at .
