Why are even bringing Vlatko back, and Im his #1 fan He makes perfect sense if there's no Zeke on the roster. Or no Tyson on the roster. Otherwise, no.

Redundancy is a good thing and the Nuggets didn’t have enough of it last season. Every NBA team has injuries. The Celtics have rostered 4 centers for 2024-25.

Every NBA team has injuries. The Celtics have rostered 4 centers for 2024-25. We have redundancy even without Zeke. At the 4 or 5 we have Jokic, Gordon, Jordan, Holmes, Zeke, Vlatko, and Hall (two-way) and we're allegedly still looking for another center. And you could put Tyson there too, it doesn't really matter whether you classify him as the last 3 on the bench or the last 4 on the bench. He's a big stiff either way. Zeke is very obviously the guy that needs to go away and have his roster spot become a 2/3.

Vlatko (who doesn’t want to play center and really has not since he stopped bulking up) may not be signed if they sign Saric and cannot trade Zeke. He was quoted as such (without the names) in an interview yesterday — the gist of it was he wanted to return to the Nuggets but whether that happens depends on what happens with the team in other respects. It seems clear that’s a reference to the Nuggets interest in Saric and the fact Nnaji remains on the roster as of today. It sounds like he’s been told they may not have room for him if they sign Saric and cannot move Nnaji.
From Hoop Rumors:
“When the Nuggets declined their team option on Vlatko Cancar for the 2024/25 season, multiple reports indicated that the two sides would likely work out a new minimum-salary deal that would both increase the forward’s salary (from the $2.35MM the option would have paid to $2.43MM) and reduce Denver’s cap hit (from $2.35MM to $2.09MM).
That deal hasn’t happened yet, but Cancar – who is representing Slovenia at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Greece after missing the 2023/24 season with a torn ACL – expressed a desire to return to Denver, per Antonis Stroggylakis of Eurohoops.
“I’m still waiting on their decision, We’ll see,” Cancar said. “… I want to be back. My goal is to be back. Hopefully there’s room.”
As Harris Stavrou of SPORTS24 tweets, Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth was at the Olympic qualifiers on Thursday watching Cancar and the Slovenians secure a spot in the semifinals by defeating New Zealand. Nuggets scout Marty Pocius was also in attendance with Booth, tweets Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports.”

I'd rather have Tyus Jones and Chanchar over Russ and Saric
I'd rather have Russ, GTJ and Chanchar over Russ and Saric
do your due diligence Calvin. Saric is a decent back up option but go after the big fish first.

Calvin trying to pull off the «no hard feelings breakup» with Vlatko

Saric is a decent back up option but go after the big fish first. Jones is at least a $9 mil per year guy, sorta Monte Morris pay scale when we extended him. Doubt we can pay him. Do we have a roster spot crunch that makes adding three players much harder than two?

I don't think Saric and his league average shooting and non-existent defense is the answer at backup center either.

I don't think Saric and his league average shooting and non-existent defense is the answer at backup center either. I think you need to think about how many players need to be below league average. And no NBA defender play non-existent NBA defense. Holmes and Vlatko (for the most part) have played non-existent NBA defense

still think Cancar and one of the remaining FAs for the TPMLE is a better deal than washed Saric.

Dario has been pretty limited since he tore his ACL in 2021. he's a complete train defensively, can't even count on him to take charges anymore.

still think Cancar and one of the remaining FAs for the TPMLE is a better deal than washed Saric. Saric been playing his best basketball since he moved to C. The last two seasons. Hardly washed

I’m glad Vlatko is slimming down. His shot was garbage with the muscle and he lacked quickness. Vlatko is meant to be a SF. He’s actually been great on perimeter defense when challenged.
Good find scooter - that quote about having room is very telling.
