Is it worth a separate thread about Jamal's non contract extension? I truly think that he needs to be traded if he does not extend. I think Calvin is playing hardball. Max contract, but with many exits on the basis of injury, etc. I think Calvin's plan is to run the current core for this season (24-25). I do think he's hoping to trade MPJ next summer, in an effort to clear space and sign Lauri M or Ingram. I think he's hoping that Jamal rejects the max, and uses that space to chase Donovan, Kyrie or Van Fleet -- all while bringing back Gordon. The idea would be that Ingram and Kyrie (or Donovan), along with AG, all take slightly "discounted" maxes in order to play together. So - we'll see what happens... I personally would prefer to keep Jamal and MPJ. To me, they fit well together, Jamal is a perfect fit with Joker, and the core-salary issue can work just fine. But don't be surprised if the FO goes for the "blow it up" option on the core. The Nuggets were very good when they won their title, but were also very lucky that they got to play a weak Miami team for the championship. Now, Calvin is proving that he has no idea how to move on from there to maintain excellence. This team went downhill fast and is still picking up speed in their downward trajectory.

yeah yeah yeah. that same weak Miami team beat the eventual champs.
not out of the realm of possibility for Braun to increase his 39% from 3 on two attempts per game to 39% from 3 on four attempts per game playing next to Joker.
not totally ludicrous to imagine a scenario where Russ driving and kicking to Dario and Strawther with Watson running the floor and erasing Russ' mistakes defensively as a massive upgrade from last year.
just get the damn Russ deal done already and sign one more vet. everything will be OK, rock jr.

Like JB said - Miami earned their place in the finals, not like their opponents were decimated by injuries. And also we did not automagically appear in the finals...

Once we bring in Russ or another vet PG, I like the roster and think we're pretty solid. But the one issue I see is that we'll still be pretty light in the backcourt, and bringing in Russ uses up the last remaining roster spot right now. I suppose we could just go a little bigger and use Watson as a backup SG in some instances, but it'd definitely still be nice to use Zeke's roster spot for another guard. And if that doesn't happen, then that last two-way spot definitely needs to go to a SG (preferably one who can shoot). Murray / Westbrook / Pickett / (Alexander) Braun / Strawther / ( two-way) Porter / Watson / Tyson Gordon / Holmes / Cancar / Nnaji / (Hall) Jokic / Saric / Jordan

This simple truth is, as it stands now, we don’t have the shooting from the backcourt to win a title, and Russ makes it even worse. Maybe Strawther has a breakout season. Maybe Jokic focuses on being a reliable 40% 3PT shooter during the season. Maybe AG returns to being a pretty good 36-38% shooter from distance. Maybe our team shoots better than expected overall. But I don’t think it’s very good on paper, and downright awful from the guards other than Murray and CB.

the Raptors have traditionally been fond of our bums (Sonny Weems, Julyan Stone, Thrill, AC etc) but at the league minimum, not at Jonas Valanchunus money. All of these guys better than zeke

www.spotrac.com/nba/apron/_/year/2024According to this we're still just barely under the 1st apron, so a s&t could still be a possibility. That said, short of including the 2031 1st, there is no way a team like Toronto or Washington would take our poo poo platter of players back in return for a guy like GJT or Tyus Jones. Not only that, but both of those guys would most likely get more money than we could match in a trade (both made 15+ mill last season) and if we were willing to go over the 2nd apron for one player this summer, we probably would've just kept KCP in that scenario anyway. Championship team not willing to even be in the 1st apron smh

Plans being not outside of the realm of posibiliities isnt very reassuring. Its POSSIBLE we didnt completely f**k up Jokic prime guys. There is a chance lol

did Zeke inbound the ball to Trevor Ariza during the most important pivotal moment of the franchise? Are you comparing a rotation player on what could very well have been a title winning team to a guy that couldnt get minutes over 50 year old Deandre Jordan? This team was built for Zeke to take Uncle Jeff minutes. But he wasnt close to good enough Just because AC made a f***ing gigantic blunder? And Im like the biggest GK and AC hater.

Clippers isnt taking Zeke lmao they can take Boris Diaw jr and Klay Thompson 2.0 then. like I told you with Chanchar, if fatty wants Westbrook he's going to get him. if Calvin is heartbroken over that deal, he can consult the man in the mirror over his bad decisions.

Zeke is an irrelevance on a 8m contract that will never be put in a position to effect a playoff game. AC cost the Nuggets a title.

Calvin Booth is like the most savage GM ever. He only wants his guys. Chanchar is one of his guys

So Zeke is clearly a worse player than AC No player or coach would ever accept the idea that one player cost a team a title because of one timely mistake. Not a single player or coach.

When Zeke becomes a “late” bloomer with a team like Washington or Charlotte at age 25 or 26, and averages 13/8 and 1.5 blocks a game on 54% shooting and 39% from 3, I might take a couple victory laps. Y’all assume he can’t play since that’s what Malone thinks and Zeke knows it. Kid has a fragile psyche and confidence problems. A change of scenery will change him as a player.

It's been four years and he still can't stop knocking the ball into the 5th row anytime it comes within 5 feet of him. His teammates are actively terrified of throwing him the ball.
