they haven't beaten us since 2022 Ring. and AD's back is acting up, allegedly. they'll win a game if guys like D'lo and Reaves just go crazy from 3. but if we can keep the game close and Joker and Jamal get the 2MG going, they can't stop us or counter us. I know but they're due. Also Lebron lately has been playing at a top 5 player in the NBA pace. I don't expect Murray to play as well as he did in last years series. The numbers he put up are basically Michael Jordan level. I just am worried about basically every team in the West. I won't feel comfortable against LA or the Pelicans tbh. LA will always have the whistle advantage and the Nuggets can't survive Jokic foul trouble. Pelicans have Herb Jones to throw at Murray. I don't think either series will be easy. Christian is REALLY going to have to step up because he has to be the guy that can close games like Bruce did if MPJ is getting picked apart. I'm nervous for this playoff run. I really would have loved to have gotten OKC in round 1 lol Outside of getting the Kings in round 1, there are no easy outs this year. There are potentially worrying matchups with every team. Concern 1/2/3 for me is Jamal's health. If he remains healthy, Nuggets will be the toughest of the tough outs in the West.

This year, Jamal will be playing at somewhat less than 100% endurance and health, compared to last year. He retweaked his ankle in game 82 and still has shin splints to deal with. Even when he came back late season and played well, he was limited to about 30 minutes. Getting a Superduperstar level Jamal for 40 mpg this postseason just doesn’t seem in the cards to me. Staying healthy for two months is a big ask. And he did it last year, so doing it two straight playoff runs seems like wishful thinking.

Jamal was playing his best basketball post ankle sprain/shin splits so I'm not worried about him health wise. I'm more worried about him cardio wise as he is going to be playing 40+ mpg and trying to carry a bench unit where he'll be responsible for all the scoring/creating/ball handling. There's no Bruce to pass to to take plays off this year.

Lakers fans convincing themselves they were 'right there' with the Nuggets. Suns fans saying they 'gave Denver all they could handle' last year. Love the eternal optimism/revisionism.
Denver wasn't just 16-4. They won their games by an average of 12 points. Fell short by an average of 5 points in their 4 losses.

Nugget fans used to delude themselves in a similar manner when we would be matched up with a team like the Spurs. "we have the starpower"! "they can't handle the altitude"! "we have the bigs to defend Duncan"!
and then the Spurs System aka The Borg would let us have the first game to give us false confidence and proceed to break us apart piece by piece. we had the ISO kings but they had the chemistry, the cohesion. every Spurs player knew what to do and what the role was. and we're not the AI/Melo Nuggets in this analogy.

smart. enjoy retirement Blake. you don't want to spend your golden years in pain like Larry Bird and Phil Jackson.

Regarding Carmelo's bitchfit about #15 being given out after he left:
After Fat Lever left the Nuggets gave his #12 to Winston Garland, Robert Pack, Marc Macon, Chris Whitney, Chris Andersen, Luis Flores, Chucky Atkins, DJ Augustin, and Jarnell Stokes before they actually retired it.
After David Thompson left the Nuggets gave his #33 to Kenny Dennard, Calvin Natt, and Greg Anderson before they retired it.
After Dikembe Mutombo left the Nuggets gave his #55 to Aaron Williams before they retired it.
So, once again, I maintain that if Melo had simply come to a Nugs game, smiled, waved to the fans, and cheered for the team he'd have been forgiven. Nugs fans forgave Thompson's domestic abuse and drug addiction, they forgave Issel's racist tirade, they forgave Mutombo and English for finishing their careers elsewhere. They'd have forgiven Carmelo too and eventually there'd have been two #15 banners hanging side by side in the rafters. But since he just wants to pick fights with the fanbase and the organization that's probably not happening now.

And while we're at it, retire Ralph Simpson's number. I suspect the reason his hasn't been retired already is because he wore #44 for most of his time here and that's Issel's number, but Simpson also wore #10. Or we can hang two #44s. Either way, Ralph deserves it.

it doesn't matter. none of those players you mentioned are in Jokic's galaxy. Melo could move back to Denver and open up a weed dispensary and it wouldn't make a difference.
Jokic is our MJ. our Hakeem. our Magic. our Bird. he's not sharing his number with any other player.

I sincerely doubt this is the sort of thing Jokic would give a rat's ass about anyway. I bet if someone asked him about hanging a Carmelo banner he'd be in favor of it.

I maintain that if Melo had simply come to a Nugs game, smiled, waved to the fans, and cheered for the team he'd have been forgiven. My take: if he shows up to a playoff game, especially in a later round, hypes the team when they're doing well, and stands up in his #15 jersey and the camera pans around to the back where it says "Jokic", Melo would be forgiven by 95% of currently-salty fans.

Probably. Sit him in the stands with Alex, Skywalker, Horseface, and Fat. Nobody could resist.

Melo has literally never complimented denver or the fans.
It’s funny - Murray just released an interview effusively praising denver and how much he loves it here.
Melo needs to heed those PR lessons.

Didn’t see if it was posted here yet but MPJ’s interview with Josh Kroenke was a great listen. There are lots of great background into things like drafting MPJ and building the team around Jokic.
