Great win. Seems like it's been ages since we won the FT battle, but I think everyone did a nice job buying into using size/strength advantages to score in the paint. Miami pretty much had no choice but to use their fouls. AG was a beast in that 1st quarter and set the tone.
I highly doubt Miami is coming out of this game thinking they "figured something out". They're not going to just come out and play zone all game. What I do expect though is a whole lot more of Jimmy and a lot more driving. They do love the 3 ball, but they're not as dumb as a team like the Celtics. They'll adjust and try to attack us more in the paint.

This. They were in control the entire time. They played with confidence. They didn’t break a sweat lol. They were so composed. I love it. Denver can win in so many ways. I’m not worried about Miami shooting better, so will Denver. And Denver can turn it up defensively if Miami starts shooting better from 3. I don't want to get too confident after one game, but this already feels much easier for the Nuggets to get high percentage shots without the likes of Gobert, Ayton, or AD roaming freely in the paint. AG destroying the Heat midget lineup is going to be a massive issue for Miami. Yep, you never know. All it takes is a 50% from 3 for the Heat and a tough game shooting for us and it’s a 1-1 series. But I just don’t see it with how controlled Denver looked tonight. I don’t think Heat have what it takes to disrupt Denver enough.

I believe if Jamal were to be awarded FMVP, he would be the first non-allstar to win since Cedric Maxwell over 40 years ago. Never going to happen. Jamal is not on the same tier as the MVP

This being the NBA, even a really bad team can occasionally have a night where they beat a really good team just because of an unusual number of shots dropping on one side and rimming out on the other end. And this is a *very good* Heat team that probably would have won 50+ games if they hadn't had so many injuries. Like the only reason they're this miracle-run 8 seed is that they were a ~3-seed quality team that had a lot of key guys miss a lot of games, and then they hit the playoffs not exactly healthy but they had Jimmy and Bam and even Lowry and their role players stepped up. The fact that it seems like it would take them having an unusually good game *and* us having an unusually bad game for them to win is really impressive. Like on paper you'd think these teams have close to the same talent level.

Just looking at the box score again - MPJ with the highest +/-
Was super impressed with his IQ, rebounding and aggressiveness. Shots didn’t fall that would usually go in and even Joker flagged that with his facial expression in his post game interview

That's 1 less, 3 to go. Great game, great team win again. Everyone doing their parts and it becomes relatively easy win, I mean Denver was in control whole game. Now rest and repeat this again

Arguably - best night of my life. Got in on Wednesday night with wifey and son. Hosted a great meetup today with some old friends - it was great that Lothar and his mother came out. We had a great time. Regarding Game 1 - That's the loudest I've ever heard Ball Arena - and I honestly think it was louder than McNichols ever was (and that's saying something!). I have a newfound love for Ball - great steepness, wide rows, and great acoustics for sound. That arena was LOUD tonight. And the way they built Ball - you feel a personal connection with everyone inside (hard to find in other arenas that are wider, or where the luxury boxes heavily disjoint things). Honestly, it was kind of a boring game (lol). After watching our guys play in LA (against the Lakers) and seeing their maximum - tonight, it just looked like our guys were like kittens toying with a ball of yarn. I kinda thought the refs were biased towards Miami - however, Jalen Rose pointed out to me that Miami only had 2 free throws all night (lol!). Our guys did not play 100% tonight (they didn't need to). Even my wife, at one point, turned to me and was like "so are our guys going to get going, or no?" Nonetheless - ended in a win - and it will end with a banner. Once the game was over - delicious dinner with some wonderful wine. We met up with Lauren Boebert (one of my best friends) and celebrated a good Colorado victory. I'm grateful that I have a wonderful wife, a great son, and that my most beloved team is in the Finals. Enjoy family - I hope you're loving this as much as I am!

I legit couldn’t hear my wife most of the game. That’s the loudest I’ve heard it on TV. I didn’t even need to turn up the volume. I’m really thinking about heading up there if there’s a game 5. I have points saved up for free flights. Would really want to time it to go to Denver and either be at the game or just be in town at a bar to party and celebrate after when they win it all!

And Nuggets fans need to be equally LOUD if not louder for Game 2

AG destroying the Heat midget lineup is going to be a massive issue for Miami. Winning is sweet! I think we’re likely to see some more “cautious looking” games from the Nuggets as the Heat — with their many smallish, quick, well-conditioned players — are really good at going after the ball to force turnovers (see Celtics). They are going to swipe and swarm and try to jump passing lanes and look to draw charges, and the Nuggets know it. If it seems like Jokic is playing it safe rather than trying to dominate inside, I think he is aware that their smalls will not only double to swipe at the ball, but they’ll also look to draw charges from anticipating his spin moves and such. I think the 2 Heat FTs was partly a result of game plan discipline from the Nuggets. That discipline can take away some of the “fun to watch” stuff but the emphasis has to be on winning. On D, I thought the Nuggets did a good job of rushing their shooters. Vincent dealt with it well, often by taking an extra dribble so that Nuggets defenders went past him, but some of their other shooters don’t shoot as well off the dribble and were bothered. I think the Heat will continue to sag into the paint and clog/jump passing lanes and concede face up shots. I’d like to see the Nuggets take open shots earlier in the shot clock — Jokic passed up several, although some of that is because he’d like to be closer to the basket when shots go up — for offensive rebounding opportunities. I think one Nuggets adjustment for game 2 will be to try to create more offensive rebounding opportunities. I think the Nuggets would be pushing the pace more if the games were not so spread out. Since there is so much recovery time, I think they are more focused on playing a lower mistake half court game and using their size advantage. On to game 2!
