Dumping picks to dump a player that doesnt make us worse doesnt seem like a good idea for a team that want to be as good as possible I think you’re missing my point. That $20 million needs to be utilized better. Sac would easily accept garris and 2 firsts for Hield - no may circle back on jrue as well. Pdx would consider it for CJ. That $20 isn’t being used well right now. Regarding Beasley - guys, the fo had a deal in place for jrue (garris and two firsts) - then no demanded three firsts (instead of 2) and all backed out. Beasley trade wasn’t an endorsement for garris. Maybe beas is still here if we don’t pursue that trade - but ultimately, beas wanted $20 minimum and the fo decided he wasn’t worth that. In the scenario that garris is traded, but not for a Sg, you now have options of Barton, Craig and even mpj. So SG is plenty stacked. What intrigues me about Hield is that he’s a bonafide 3 point shooter who just comes off the bench and gives you fantastic offense. Of course, I won’t say no to jrue - but overall - our fo has to do something here.

I also hope Beasley gets 20+ million but things have changed. His market is probably much smaller. However this isn’t the nuggets fault. Just bad luck.

That $20 million needs to be utilized better. Sac would easily accept garris and 2 firsts for Hield - no may circle back on jrue as well. Pdx would consider it for CJ. Hield has a 4 year/$94 mil contract (give or take, as it has a lot of incentives) that starts next season. It'll come as a surprise to many that he's also 2 years older than Harris, turning 28 in December when next season is just starting. He makes too much for a bench SG and I'm not convinced there are enough shots for him with the starting unit to justify his salary. And he's not a good defender or good secondary ballhandler or playmaker. While Harris' shooting has been disappointing, it makes more sense to have a lower volume/defense first guy at that position in the team's starting unit, especially as Porter's role grows. Given his contract ($24-26 mil next season depending on incentives), IMO Hield isn't nearly good enough to justify Harris + 2 firsts. A guy like Holiday -- absolutely. Hield is not in his class. Since Cameron Johnson has 3 more years on his rookie contract, that idea makes more sense from a money standpoint (I don't have much opinion about his game) in the sense that it could free up money to re-sign both Millsap and Grant, and I'd like to see both return, although it'll be interesting to keep an eye on how effective Millsap is the rest of this weird, delayed season. With the schedule pushed back, he'll be turning 36 early in next season. Johnson plays the same position as Porter and that deal would leave the team really thin at guard, with Murray and Barton starting, and the only bench guys under contract for next season would be Morris and Dozier, which isn't enough.

how awesome would it be if harris just reverted back to his 2017-18 form:
17.5 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.8 spg on 49/40/83
I know that scoring average isnt realistic with our new weapons but even 60% of that scoring with the same efficiency would be huge.

McCollum is under contract for the next 4 years for $130 mil total, he turns 29 in a few weeks, and as an undersized SG he might start declining during this contract (he'll be making $33 mil and $36 mil the last two years at ages 31 and 32). As good as CJ is, I don't see Nuggets' ownership wanting to take on that obligation given that Porter will become a free agent in 2 years.

I don’t want cj and his contract on this team What I meant was I thought you mis interpreted duhs post about cj on pdx as Cameron Johnson (on phx)

I guess enough time has passed where people judge Harris by his bballref page and forget he's capable of doing things like humbling Lillard in a 7 game series after Dame was fresh from scorching the Thunder.

I am all for Buddy if the price is G and picks. He's already one of the best shooters of all-time That seems like hyperbole for a player who has yet to take a single shot in a playoff game. He's also been playing for a crappy team, and crappy teams get a lot of D efforts from opposing teams. Here in Nuggets-land, we've seen the difference after the team became a playoff team and some top teams decided to bring their A game on certain nights vs. the D level game they often bring against nobody teams in regular season games (complete with periodic load management resting of key players). An awful lot of Hield's NBA games so far have been those meaningless regular season games against indifferent defense. I'll leave it to the pro scouts to determine if his game will translate to A level NBA ball. I'm not sure. But I'm quite sure I'm not ready to put him in the same category -- even as a shooting specialist -- as Ray Allen or Kyle Korver or Klay Thompson.

Lots of players play on "crappy" teams, yet Buddy has shot the ball better than just about any of them. If the cutoff for "one of the best shooters all time" ends at Ray Allen or Klay Thompson, then, of course, Buddy is not yet there yet. He only has 3 seasons under his belt, and, in that stretch, he made more three than any other player in their first 3 years - ever. I guess I could qualify my statement to say, in regards to a players first 3 NBA seasons, Buddy has been one of the best shooters ever. Last year, TC said the main thing this team needed was shooting. I can't think of a better and attainable shooter than Buddy. If you have Buddy and MPJ spacing the floor for Joker and Murray, you probably have one of the best offenses of all time.

When he started his rookie season he was 6 months older than Jamal Murray is right now. So it isn't exactly apples to apples to compare Hield's first 3 seasons to guys coming into the league at 19 like a lot of the most talented players. I'm skeptical ownership really wants to take on another big contract that extends past Porter's rookie deal. Maybe for an allstar or borderline allstar, but otherwise I'm guessing no. But see we shall.

basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/258933/Teams-Could-Sell-First-Round-Picks-To-Raise-Moneyodds we sell our first round pick from houston? 99.5% same old "we like the guys we have currently, we want to make sure they get the opportunity to shine, we feel its best if we look forward with the players we have, etc" its a mistake. we were the last team to sell a first rounder, 7 years ago. thats how dumb and rare it is to do. first rounders are a good chance to lock up decent talent/depth for cheap for a few years. I think in this draft its a crap shoot so its possible to get a steal around pick 22.
