maybe u wouldnt insult a stranger the same way u would here. but were not really strangers either. What are you saying? That it's ok to insult someone if he's not a stranger? Sorry, pac, I'm not trying to be an ass - but when you really come to think of it it's hard to justify that, unless you go the route of "I do it because I like to do it and that's it". This is not a public place, so I'm not against establishing rules for posting and for new members (what I have no problem with), be it a "Newbie hangout" or something else. However, everyone will say something stupid from time to time, ourselves included, man. So maybe we should just be a bit more patient with them - were older people mean to you when YOU were 13 years old and tried to jump in the conversations? I think we should be more patient with people unless they are intentionally trying to be annoying, or trolling. I don't know if that's possible to enforce, but I do agree, however, that banning, when justified, should have a more definitive aspect to it.

Sooner or later you're going to have to learn how to deal with them in your own way, because expecting someone else(mods, in this case) to take care of it for you is unrealistic in life. That's not true here however, CLN. Because if we DO try to take care of it ourselves we get our asses spanked by the mods as much as the offenders if not more. So, if you think people should take care of the subjects themselves any way they think they need to, then you can't really complain when they do, right? And what are mods for anyway, if to moderate such things, exactly because people tend to think internet boards are no man's land? In real life you have laws and cops to ensure they're followed. In real life, when someone robs your place, do you go hunt them yourself, or do you call the police? Well to your first point....it's valid. But speaking for myself, which is all I can really do, that's not how I have or ever would handle things. Other mods have their own style, but that's just how I view things. As far as your second point and example, I don't think it's an apt comparison. The thing with message boards is that everything is just talk, not fist fights and robbery and murder. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's where the whole freedom of speech comes into play. You're generally allowed to say whatever the hell you want, without legal consequence. Other people may look down on you and criticize you for what you say, but you're not going to end up in prison(99.9% of the time). Moderators are not here to babysit. I look at it like a sports bar setting. As long as you're not getting into fist fights and trashing the place, you can act like as much of a drunken idiot as you'd like. There is a lot of leeway for you to say and do a lot of things you probably wouldn't be able to do other places(such as work), but there is still a line there. It's a line quite a bit bigger and harder to cross....but when someone does, you'll know it.

Instead of frantically waving your hands and crying and quoting the comment in question over and over saying WHEN WILL A MOD TAKE CARE OF THIS? isn't as effective as saying something clever in return and/or PMing mods. If the mods ever really did something about it, I'd agree. When any other line of action has not given results, the only one left is to make as much noise as you can so people will HAVE to pay attention to you. I really doubt you go calling other fans "morons", "retards" or "a-holes" to their faces, but suit yourself if you think that's cool. So I understand you're some authority on "a-holeness"?

My sister is planning on going with cloth diapers. From the lessons she has given me( ), it doesn't seem a whole lot different. I don't think I'll be the one to mind it so much though, as I'll only have to do it a few times a week on average maybe. I feel sorry for her husband who will be the one doing the 'diaper laundry' or whatever you'd like to call it.

So basically you are doing a load of towels filled with baby s**t? NO THANKS

Complaining about quality of posts turns into a discussion on diapers. the diapers D2R posted were G. -------- "Free speech" doesn't apply here; this isn't a government-run board. Rock can censor it however he wants. Personally, I'm a fan of "free exchange of ideas". If you have an idea to contribute, please share it. If you just want to mumble incoherently, swear randomly, drag your fights with other posters out in public, or complain about stuff nobody gives a crap about, keep your mouth shut. You can say all that stuff all you want, just not on this board. I don't mind occasional diversions. I don't mind occasionally letting something slide. But I do mind people habitually making trouble on the board, dragging down the quality of discussion, etc. If such people get to the point where their non-contributions or anti-contributions outweigh their contributions, it's banning time. (Note: if I ban you, I don't care if you come back later, as long as your contributions outweigh your non-contributions/anti-contributions under your new name.)

I look at it like a sports bar setting. As long as you're not getting into fist fights and trashing the place, you can act like as much of a drunken idiot as you'd like I agree it can be hard to come up with a good analogy to compare behavior here with behavior in real life, but then it goes both ways - after all, CLN, what IS the equivalent of "getting into fist fights and trashing the place" here, where literal fist fights and trashing of places are not possible? Maybe that's the problem - we have no guideline to follow or to tell us when someone has crossed that line you speak about. Maybe you guys should come up with that, so we can be objective when deciding if we should complain about something or not, or simply leave in case we disagree with the rules.

I am first in line to take custody of the kid if they both happen to die.....in which case, I get 500k tax free.
Is that a little bit closer?

I will be getting paid to babysit on occasion, and turn the little guy into a massive Nuggets fan and future NBA star.
