no, you just hate kmart and wont give him any credit. and he wasnt tired. they had 4 days off. he had a few days to adjust to the altitude. hes a prime athlete. Altitude is definitely a factor. Prime athletes, presumably required to be playing at elite levels can still be affected by such things. It takes upwards a week for full acclimation to normal behavior. For full acclimatization (at least as far as any individual is going to) can be months or years. I'm sure it factored in, but a good game plan takes that into account and it looked like we did. That goes pretty much contrary to every interview I've ever read of opposing teams' players playing in Denver. They nearly always talk about getting winded quickly in the first and maybe 2nd quarters, but acclimating and feeling normal for the rest of the game.

you're just looking for disagreement when there isn't any. we wore dirk out and kmart was a big part of that. no, you just hate kmart and wont give him any credit. and he wasnt tired. they had 4 days off. he had a few days to adjust to the altitude. hes a prime athlete. Scooter is right. Dirk was tired. It wasn't just Dirk either. Look at their 3 key starters. You have Dirk who is a 7 foot, 245 pound guy running up and down the floor at altitude. You have Kidd who is a 36 year old point guard. Then you have Howard who has played 33 minutes or more of basketball just a few times in the last 2 months. I'm not sure why scooter needs defense on this one. Look at Dirk's numbers by quarter: 1st - 6-8, 13 points 2nd - 1-5, 3 points 3rd - 4-6, 10 points 4th - 1-3, 2 points. If Kenyon's hard foul had taken Dirk 100% out of the game, why did he have such a quality third quarter? It's pretty clear Dirk was A-OK at the start of the halves, but as the pace of the game wore on, he grew tired and became worse. A lot of those JKidd turnovers at the end were stupid, tired turnovers as well. Dallas is in kind of a catch 22 here. They need to run so they get better open looks, but if the pace of the game becomes high, they'll wear themselves down doing it. It'll be interesting to see what solutions they come up with in game 2.

That chip on your shoulder must be awfully heavy to have to carry around every day. I gave KMart credit although it wasn't exactly a one man effort. As for Nowitzki, he clearly tired as the game went on, which is something that is not uncommon for seven foot white guys. He had no lift at all as the game wore on. The guy sitting next to me (and my seats are about 4 feet above floor level so we have a pretty damn good perspective) remarked that in the 4th quarter Dirk couldn't get 2 inches off the ground and that was on both ends of the court.

as i'm going through this game 1 tape for highlights....its become pretty clear that dirk might be the worst interior defensive player in the league. maybe tied with carlos boozer. no shot blocking no charge taking little physical pressure no hands to strip players no shot contesting slow rotations its terrible. we should be able to exploit that all series. In other words....he's soft! Funny how Mavs fans will fight that notion till they are blue in the face. But they are just being homeristic if they do not realize that Dirk is one of the main reasons why their team is only ever average defensively.

No Mavs trolls yet? I thought for sure they'd be off the mat by now, ready to revise history that was a game 1 blowout.

That might be adrenaline kicking in, but it's most definitely not supported by any medical knowledge of what is required to acclimate to altitude. You DO get about 70-80% there from the the BPG your body can quickly increase. Though you also LOSE it just as quickly. But to fully acclimate requires changes in RBC's and that's on the order of weeks just to start, and months to fully change over.

Source: Martin foul earns fine
DENVER -- The NBA has hit Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin with a $25,000 fine and upgraded his Game 1 foul on Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki to a flagrant foul, ESPN.com on Monday.
The league is expected to formally announce the penalty against Martin later Monday.
Less than six minutes into Sunday's Game 1, Martin was called for a technical foul after knocking Nowitzki to the ground with a bump along the baseline after Nowitzki had made his first six shots from the floor.
Nowitzki finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds but shot only 6-for-16 after the hot start. Denver pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 109-95 triumph to take a 1-0 series lead entering Tuesday night's Game 2 at the Pepsi Center.

Yeah, then the Nuggets might only win by 9. Only concern would be overexerting Bird.

is there video of that foul? I saw it live and while it was a little rough foul it sure didnt look like a flagrant. How was his foul worse than Rondo's foul that was ruled not a flagrant?

You're in denial if you don't think a big factor in this decision and decisions like it is preceded reputation.

It looked bad at first....but I saw a replay from one angle kind of straight along with baseline, and it looked like he barely stuck his arm out. I'm not saying it wasn't technical worthy or whatever, because it was......but Dirk definitely flopped like a mofo and made it look A LOT worse than it was.

even more lame is dirk was asked about it at the press conference, and he totally blew it off, saying he really made nothing of it.

You're in denial if you don't think a big factor in this decision and decisions like it is preceded reputation. The other issue is the number of techs that Kmart has picked up. I knew it but no suddenly brain cramping...does the flagrant count, or did we pick up a blessing in disguise?

I forget the exact numbers....but you can have like 7 techs in the playoffs before a suspension(16 in the regular season). There is a similar limit for flagrants.....i think it's around 6 or so in the regular season, and then again less in the playoffs.
It really doesn't matter too much, just as long as he doesn't have many more flagrants. But I guess it probably is a good thing, since he is more likely to get techs than flagrants(most likely).

In the context of the game I think it was probably a flagrant. Dirk had been lighting it up, and Kenyon wanted to send him a message so he laid him on his ass. It certainly was not a "basketball play".....there was no attempt whatsoever to go after the ball.

So four flagrant 1s = suspension. That's hilarious. Save 1 for Kobe and 1 for LeBron. Though breathing on them is probably an automatic F2.. I assume the automatic 1 game after a flagrant 2 holds true.
