ok cool i can restrict access based on group - which is directly related to post count. thats an easy one to implement.

100 posts is way too much. its easy to spot the jackasses 10 posts in. im thinking 25.
make sure that noobs are allowed to at least read threads in the main forum tho otherwise it would be pointless to sign up.
im worried if this happened we would see a billion "so and so for melo" trade ideas and what not. i mean where else can somebody post to prove they are worthy?
im not sure about most of this stuff, but the bare minimum changes should be no noob is allowed to make threads. at least a limit of 100 posts. i rarely make new threads. part of the reason is that somebody has usually beaten me with the "breaking news". noobs just make 5 similar threads. annoying. also can we please bring back the ignore feature???

yeah i like that idea - anyone can view all boards but to be able to post/start new threads you need ____ number of posts (that must be gained in other forums)

100 posts isn't too much. I'd prefer something more than 10 or 20. Maybe 50?
So some clarification... this would be retroactive correct? Like if a guy who signed up a year ago only has 85 posts, he'll have to continue to prove himself?
I'd also like to limit access for people with less than 100 posts to feedback and The Bench section. I don't want stupid threads to popup in the offseason/hangout forums.

And can there be a moderator-only forum so we can share and save info about posters for reference?

I'm loving the ideas and where we're heading...
'100 posts is the right measure... Peanut and some othe trollkids reach that in less than a week.
Rooks should be able to read but not post on the main forums... On the others, if possible, I agree they should be able to post but not create threads.
Full access for noobs only on feedback and bench talk.

Yes there have been a lot of trolls and stupid posters but you need to address your mod ranks first rock.
Cam barely posts about basketball. He is one of the many old timers for whom NT is a social hangout rather than a place to talk about the Nuggets. There is nothing wrong with having him lead the hangout section, but he is the wrong person to be judging who should and shouldn't be talking about basketball.
Without mods that lead, no matter what limits you put up, the discussions are going to get taken into the gutter quickly. What is it you want out of this place rock? Is it to have the best Nuggets discussion or is it simply to have a hangout where the Nuggets are discussed?
In the years I have been coming here, I have never seen mods consistently leading discussion (which at most forums is the role of the mods)

Every board should be viewable to everyone. Quality posters aren't going to sign up if they can't see the good stuff.
Also, the mods should be able to "send down" newly approved posters. Essentially saying, "oops, we thought you were good, but then started spewing crap. Have another chance." Seems better than just turning and banning them, since they appeared to have value at some point.

Mods should also be active posters IMO so they know what is going on. You have some mods that haven't made a post in weeks.

For example, I pretty much only post from work. So, things that get could really get hosed up over night or (god forbid) over a weekend when I'm not around. Not that I should really be in the mod discussion anyway... just tossing out an example.

might be tough to restrict access to a board for viewing but not posting.
ie, the best bet might be requiring a certain number of posts to gain access to a board. i can limit access to boards to either guests vs everyone and then the same for creating threads/polls and replying to threads. but once someone is in, they will have full access like everyone else. (i may be able to allow 'guests' in to view but limit the rest of the options but im not sure if that would work...dont know which takes priority - post count or being a guest vs member)
I can create a 'bench talk' (or whatever we want to name it) and let everyone have access there. once they reach a certain number of posts (i think 25 is a good number...if someone is trying to just reach that number by posting crap itll be easy to see) they can gain access to the main boards.
we can also automatically bump people up and give them instant access if someone can vouch for that poster. for those who have seen similar things on other boards, how exactly do they do it?
as for mods: yes they will need to be more active and keep the boards running smoothly and on topic.
keep the ideas coming.

Sorry but it's almost impossible for the mods to see everything. If you see something, send a PM to someone.

I see pretty much every thread on days when I read this board. But then, I don't read it every day.
You can't expect a single mod to see everything. But with a group of active mods who mostly read the board, not a lot is going to slip through the cracks. You don't need your mods to necessarily be nuggets/basketball geniuses, you just need guys who will crack down on the insults, duplicate or misplaced threads, and spam. There are a couple dozen people here who'd be capable of that.
