guess he can never coach another team again. love malone! Not sure about that. KMart had his neck lips tattoo covered up, so I’m sure Malone can do that when he leaves…in 2032.

GOAT Nuggets coach. I hated him earlier in his career and thought he was coaching for his job this season but nice to see him get this W when he would catch flack for basically anything he did. His obsession with defense ended up being correct in the end. I've never been a Karl hater. He has his flaws for sure but overall I think he was pretty good. Watching Malone coach a perfect postseason really did show what you lacked with Karl. I don't think coaches matter THAT much in terms of X's and O's at the NBA level. It's not college/HS/football etc. but the fact that Malone was able to hit it out the park in the aspect + you get all the culture/development/players coach stuff that we knew he already had and it really was an impressive run for him. Nuggets to keep him around for awhile. They can't do something stupid if there's a let down year or whatever. I could see what the Nuggets have done with TC/Booth/Josh/brain trust/Malone etc. really holding on for quite awhile. Loyalty, being the "nice" guys, and putting a huge priority on culture.

Prediction: Malone will be Nuggets coach as long as Jokic is here, and no longer.

Prediction: Malone will be Nuggets coach as long as Jokic is here, and no longer. Guess it depends when Jokic retires but if he makes it that long .. I think you obviously run the next rebuild him with him. He's a pretty young coach. If he survives the Jokic era(say Jokic plays another 4-8 years at that point) he's a Nuggets staple and he's getting a chance with the next core. It's a tough business tho. To me the next 4-5 years will be the hard ones. Will be high expectations and it's a results based league. I do think the Nuggets have shown patience and I think the connection Malone has with Jokic/Murray likely gets him alot more leash than alot of coaches get so it's a rare situation where I could see Malone being here for a very long time.

Sean McVay (Rams): 2017-present Jared Bednar (Avs): 2016-present Michael Malone (Nugs): 2015-present Pat Coyle (Mammoth): 2014-present as coach and 2005-2008 as player Robin Fraser (Rapids): 2019-present as coach and 2001-2003 as player Jonas Eidevall (Arsenal WFC): 2021-present Mikel Arteta (Arsenal FC): 2019-present as coach and 2011-2016 as player
In general the Kroenkes have been pretty slow to make coaching changes and pretty loyal to the guys they like. We're lucky they moved on from Shaw as quickly as they did in hindsight.

Jokic: "I don't know why people think I'm going to retire early". So he obviously plans to play. He is under contract for next 5 years, 5th being player option. I think its safe to assume he is Nugget for at least 5 more seasons. After that, he will be 33 and there are 2 viable options IMO. 1. He comes back to Serbia so his daughter can start her education in Serbia. He might continue playing in Serbia. 2. He signs another 4 year deal, then calls it at age 37. I do believe option 1 is more likely, so we have 5 more years of Jokic, at least 3 if not all 5 would be in his prime. We also have MPJ locked in for 4 more years(4th not fully guaranteed), Gordon for 2+1(player option for 22+M), Jamal 2 and KCP 1+1(player option for 15+M). So this team will be top contenders for next 2 years(I believe KCP will take player option), then Jamal new contract will kick in(all NBA in one of next two seasons), after which we will be forced to let KCP go. He will also be 32, so, ending his prime for sure. So there is 90% chance Malone is here for at least two more years, unless he does some major f up. If Nuggets win another title in those 2 years, then Malone will stay as much as he likes. One title is good, and will buy you 2-3 more years without major f ups. 2 titles will buy you 5-7 years at least. So I do agree with GBG, Malone will be here as long as Jokic is here, after which Nuggets will hit rebuild button and Malone will go to another place. Or retire.

I'm getting excited about the dynasty talk. Our entire core is good to go, contract-wise, for the next 2 seasons. We can run the table during that time.
Initially, I thought this new CBA was kind of rigged against us - however, with our cap situation being mostly fine, it's causing other teams to make absolutely stupid decisions and subtractions. Game had made this point in another thread, but most teams are now overpaying superstars, with minimal MLE money, leaving them with no benches (PHX is a good example - as well as Memphis). Whereas, our bench is full of decent players with cheap contracts.
Come 2025, when Murray and AG will get new contracts, the cap will likely go up enormously by then (and Peyton and Braun will both still be on rookie salaries). By 2026, decent shot we lose Peyton and/or Braun - but that's basically runway of the next three seasons with our major core being locked up. And if we score a good rookie or two in this draft, then 2026 continues the trend of a good, cheap bench players, paired with our superstars.
Lastly - I'm just damn impressed with Booth. He spent the 2022 draft targeting bench players - he knew what was ahead.
It's going to be an incredible next 4 to 5 years.

It’s nice being us. As opposed to say Phoenix. Checked out their forum, and they’re praying they found a rotation player in Camara…since there will be more presidential elections than Suns draft picks over the next 5 years. And they have zero flexibility to add anything but vet mins unless they trade Ayton.
It will be kinda nice watching all of Phoenix’s soon-to-be lottery picks being shipped out east for the better part of a decade. Clowns.

They haven't just fucked their chances at a banner for the next few seasons - they've severely capped their chances of having a good rebuild once this current core is done. They've basically set their franchise back by about 5 to 7 years, once the current core is done. Painful if you're a PHX fan.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7v85rDOsqUFirst 15 minutes recap the bubble and then the Jamal/MPJ injury seasons and idiots like Nick Wrong. Then it gets into this offseason, regular season, Jamal's return, the toxic MVP race, and finally the playoffs and championship. Really well done.
