hoopswire.com/2024-nba-free-agents/Small Forwards: Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Reggie Bullock, Doug McDermott, Oshae Brissett Shooting Guards: Victor Oladipo, Terquavion Smith, James Bouknight Point Guards: Markelle Fultz, Dennis Smith Jr. Any 2 of the above would be an upgrade over Pickett and Tyson

I'll take Fultz and bring Holiday back. you could do worse with third string vets.
but it's not happening. the best we can hope for is Josh telling Calvin to cut one of them to sign a buyout guy.

They are not cutting two guys and eating double dead money for two seasons.

Adam Mares said on postgame livestream minutes ago that Zeke indeed is tradeable. Only thing is don’t expect much of a return. He’s plugged in. Predicted Murray signing an extension in the timeframe that he did, when everyone else was sweating about what was going on.
Also said Zeke and Pickett were working out together, away from the team this summer. Thinks they aren’t even expecting to be on this team very long.
Maybe Calvin has one or two more moves before the season starts?

Pickett and Tyson are making minuscule amounts. They're the kind of contract that costs essentially nothing to get off of -- you can just pay a crappy team to take them, and then the crappy team will waive them if they don't see them as an NBA player. If the team really wanted a roster spot to make some other deal, they'd do it. Which means management doesn't think they'd rather have Fultz or Holiday than Pickett or Tyson.

Holiday shot 60% from 3 during the Wolves series and scored double digits each time Malone played him 19 minutes or more.
and current day Fultz is probably Pickett's ceiling so it's probably a good idea to pick the finished product if they're making the same money.

Sure, if you could just snap your fingers and switch these guys out at zero cost (certainly Pickett) you would, but it doesn’t work that way. There is cost to making end of the roster changes at this point — I don’t know exactly how much cost so I don’t know exactly how the cost/benefit calculation appears. There will be some change — we just don’t know when and exactly what it’ll look like.

PJ Tucker for Zeke & Pickett + 2nd round pick?
PJ is washed and not with the Clippers at present. He is expiring (tick) but we could potentially get 5-8min out of him. Free up a roster spot for the buyout market too.

Tucker would be in pretty much the same role we're seeing for Vlatko right now, I think. If he's not happy with a fringe rotation role in LA I don't think he'd accept the same here. Because he wouldn't be getting minutes over Saric, Gordon, Porter, or Watson.

Unless he wants to get waived and give up guaranteed $$$ he'll never earn again, I'd say he would be ok with it. Saves us $10m + the next couple of seasons and creates a roster spot

As critical as I've been of Zeke and Tyson and Pickett on the court, I don't think any of them are close to a problem in the locker room. If we're trading or waiving any of them I want it to be for someone we know wants to be here and won't rock the boat.

Err, PJ Tucker is Michael Malone's dream player. it's like a mad scientist merged Facu and Torrey Craig in a lab. he would get minutes no matter how washed he is.

I think that's part of why Booth hasn't brought back guys like Holiday, Jeff Green's, ect. He's trying to force Malone's hand on playing Strawther and Watson. Now there's the definite downside that behind those guys our 11-15 is not good, but I think (just my opinion) this is a major trust issue between Booth and Malone, that Booth doesn't believe that Malone will give those younger guys the minutes they need to develop if he brings in too many vets.
