Very impressive first punch. Doesn't mean much, but I know how concerned we all were with the team not being playoff ready. Guess we can agree now that rest was more important than momentum.
Couple things did bug me though. Mainly Jokic getting called for every little bump and touch. Dude gets a worse whistle than that Machine Gun Kelly lookin dude on the Suns. He's gonna have to adjust and be smarter, but there's only so much he can do. Pisses me off though that he can't get star treatment even in a home game against the Wolves.
I'm also a little annoyed with Malone looking like the sky is literally falling. He needs to calm down a bit and make sure he's at the top of his game. Can't be blinded by adrenaline. Bringing starters back in the 4th, up 30 was truly insane.

Just talked to Josh Kroenke.
Nuggets gave me their word if Malone doesn’t make the finals this year, I’ll be the new Head Coach. I’m taking ring with me as the offensive coordinator, freak as defensive coordinator, Erik as the big man skill development coach and jimi as the towel boy

Yep, the switch is real. I wouldn’t wanna play defense like that for 82 games either.

The NBA needs to do the following:
1) get rid of conferences & especially divisions 2) let everybody play all teams twice so the record is actually TELLING. teams in weak divisions play 16 games against bad teams. 3) still have the season from October - May, so that’s 2-3 games a week.

basically, Euroleague type, with more teams. would be great actually. 58 games, so you can add mid season tournament without too much trouble, and you give finalist secure playoff spots, so they would really play for something. also, playoff should be 8 teams only. same thing as conferences now, just through whole NBA. 6 teams in, 4 teams in playin. if midseason tournament finalists are not top 6, they get 5th and 6th seed.
then everyone would go hard for a lot longer then two months between Christmas and all star break. with two games per week there would be no b2b no load management...
and most important, with 58 games there would be less chances for Jimijam to injury someone with his game threads.
that being said, watched first half now(got awake for second half this morning)... Nuggets did exactly what they need to do. played hard, physical, and Jokic was aggressive to start the game. Murray and MPJ didn't have it from the start, but KCP did, and it was just a matter of time when these two will catch up. also, Brown was sensational. fantastic roles from Uncle Jeff and Braun also, but Bruce was on another level. game 2, Nuggets need to keep same effort. this is only one game, and every next is just going to be harder then previous. so forget the win and keep the intensity.

Getting extra rest is so important in a playoff run. The last thing you want is to play a brutal/physical 6 or 7 game series and then have to play a Game 1 48 hours later. It's why the Nuggets got obliterated in Game 1 of the bubble against LAC and LAL.

Friendly reminder that last years playoff run featured these players:
Monte Morris - solid backup PG Will Barton - Career over, couldn't get minutes on non-play in teams. J Myke - Can't get minutes on a 6 seed with poor depth Austin Rivers - Not a rotation player on a play-in team. Facu - Not in the NBA Cousins - Not in the NBA Bryn Forbes - Not a rotation player on a play-in team. Bones Hyland - Terrible player
Holy f**k lol. When you look at what Calvin did in 1 offseason...it's absolutely mind blowing.

I don't even want to conjure up the thought of Will Barton still starting for the Nuggets.
again, thank you Minnesota for taking that bullet for us.

Minnesota lost their best title chance the year they played us in the first round because they had some guys get injured over the course of a playoff run that was just a couple more games than it needed to be. The Wolves are the kind of team we should be able to beat in 4-5, so letting it go to 6-7 just means extra minutes and fatigue and chance of injury.

I was watching the game from my son’s 3rd level seats and got home quite late — hence the lack of peanut gallery takes. I’m sure you guys have chewed it over plenty, so just a few observations:
1. That Gobert trade was so dumb, because he’s not that good (although he did provide a few moments of great rim defense), relegates Towns to spotting up at the 3 point line, clogs the paint when their top attribute of their best player Edwards is driving to the basket, contributes to making the team slow, and most importantly, he’s a b***h and his teammates never like him. Edwards is much more of a one on one driver than a P&R guy and doesn’t have the same use for Gobert’s screen game that the Jazz had. Nice job, TWolves’ management! 2. Losing McDaniels and Reid makes an already slowish TWolves team team even slower. 3. I really liked what I saw from MPJ, although the slowness of the TWolves team admittedly makes it a favorable matchup for him. Still, loved the competitiveness he showed, despite missing a bunch of mid-range shots, most of which seemed decent from my distant perspective. 4. Murray played some terrific defense. Oh, and Mike Conley is not happy with Danny Ainge. Murray loved the dust up after Anderson decided to try to start something with Braun — he was egging on the crowd. He loves that stuff and it gets him going. 5. Bruce Brown was fantastic. 6. Jeff Green played excellent defense. Bet that surprised some people. 7. The TWolves’ size did bother Jokic some, but he did what he needed to do. After his 6th foul, ref Josh Tiven was strangely explaining the call at some length to a fan sitting court side on the opposite side of the court from the players’ benches. Its irrelevant to the game — its just something that I assume wasn’t seen on TV that was strange/interesting to me. 8. The Ball Arena crowd was loud until the end of the 3rd quarter when the game was effectively over and some folks opted to call it a night. Great night for the Nuggets, with the Suns losing just as the Nuggets game was getting started.

Phoenix-Clippers play their fourth game early Saturday, Nuggets are late Sunday. I don't expect either series to end in 4, but same tempo should go for games 5-6-7 if needed. and yes, it is extremely important to finish series early. last time someone won finals after having more games in conference finals was Toronto, but we all know reason for it(injuries)... Last time fully healthy team lost finals after having less games in conference finals was 2015 when Cleveland sweep Atlanta and GSW lost one game to the Rockets. actually, in last 20 years, only two teams have won title after loosing 2 games in series on average(ie lost 8 or more playoff games in 4 rounds). one is Toronto, again, which, again, is an outlier because of Warriors injuries. second one is 2008 Celtics (4-3, 4-3, 4-2, 4-2), and they were 13-1 at home, 3-9 on the road. so we either finish things quickly or we win every single home game
