This is the thread to discuss the series, not the game thread.
I think Spurs will give us a fight, as Pop is not gonna lay down. They are 15-8 since the AllStar break, while Nuggets are only 15-10. I see this going 7 with Nuggs winning Game 7, but what say you?
This also is a good thread to use for discussion of other Round One matchups. Not just ours.

Paul Pierce picks the Spurs. Chauncey basically thinks it'll be a long series.
The Nuggets aren't going to get respect until they prove they can do it on this stage. And that's fair, TBH. Everybody but Millsap (Malone included) has never done this before.
Go get it.

Road wins often indicate how good a team is. SAS is not impressive, but I don't trust us in a game 7. Even at home
Nuggets in 6

When was our last win in San Antonio?
If we don’t take the first two games this series probably ends in 6
If we do hopefully we can win in 7

To me, this series have 2 huge questions, both more important for future rather then this year playoffs.
1) can Jokic be cornerstone of playoff team? we know Jokic can dominate regular season. however, when things gets tough, he losses his temper, and there is also huge question mark, what is going to happen when teams prepare defenses exclusively for him. we know Jokic likes to play smart basketball, and if someone is doing everything they can to stop him, he will simply find an open man. but what if shots aren't falling in? in NBA its expected that star player takes over a game, even when he is double teamed. I don't like it, I know Jokic doesn't like it, but it is what it is...
2) how good is our supporting cast? as I said in first question, Jokic will be the main focus, but he can't do it alone. in todays NBA, two superstars are usually not enough. you need to have supporting cast. I know we aint getting superstar play from anyone but maybe Jokic, but can Murray take over at least one game? can he be good and bad Murray for 6 or 7 games, or we are going to see ok-ish and bad Murray? can Garris dominate defensively? can Monte and Beasley be effective when defenses tightens up? I'm sure we are going to get solid outings from Millsap, and I'm sure Barton will at least play defense with high intense, and hopefully wouldn't screw us(but he should be second option behind Jokic, no matter how bad Murray or Millsap looks at times), but Murray, Monte and Beasley are three players we need to look more closely, so we can get the idea what to expect in future.
as for result, I voted Nuggets at 7. both teams are really good home teams, and more so, horrible away teams, it will need major screwup or some gem from Pop for any team to steal away game

Spurs are the second-worst road team that made the playoffs, one game better than the Pistons. Nuggets are the best home team in the NBA. Spurs are pretty tough at their place, but I think we can grab one there (we had a 1-point road L in a game where IT took eleven shots.)

freakns Jokic will be forced to be a scorer way more than he would prefer to be. Pop will cut his passing lanes and force him to put the ball on the floor and once he goes in dribble, then send the double team on him. That is when Jokic is most vulnerable. Double team him when he have his eyes up and he has a full court vision = you are in trouble. I am quite sure that Pop will make a game plan to make him a scorer first and to keep him as far from the paint as possible. On the defensive end we gotta do the same about LMA (sending double team every time he puts the ball down) or he will average 40 in this series. X factor will be DeRozan and who will guard him, Garris is the best option but will see and for us X factor will be Millsap more than Murray in this series. Millsap will have preferable matchups for whole series due to the fact that SAS lacks size a lot but their guards are good on D and i see uncle Paul having way higher usage rate in this series.

We have a lot more talent that San Antonio. Unless Pop severely outcoaches Malone (entirely possible) or our guys just panic because it's their first taste of the playoffs...I don't see us losing this series.
LMA/Derozan are decent match ups for us. You can put Millsap of Lamarcus and Gary on Derozan. Much better than having Murray on Russ and Barton on PG13.

Vegas isn't exactly over the moon for Denver. Second tightest series odds of any playoff series.

In theory I really like our chances in this matchup. I'd predict a win in 5-7 games. There's so many unknown's it's really hard to actually have a genuine prediction until we see a game or two.
IMO Jokic should finish 3rd in MVP voting and has legitimate superstar talent. He could be a consistent top 5 player purely from a talent perspective. His mentality is very different compared to players in his talent group tho. It's not even that it's straight up bad, just isn't ideal for NBA basketball. I can't even think of a comparison really. You never had to worry about Duncan refusing to shoot or getting overly emotional and he's the go to for unselfish/ego free NBA stars. This series is going to be an absolute gigantic test and very revealing for our future. Playoffs are just different. It's 7 games. Jokic can't take stupid fouls, or refuse to shoot, or get timid like at all.
Jokic/Murray are the question marks. When they play to the level there capable of .. were a legitimate 2nd seed team that's scary. Given Murray's age, both of there experience, Murray's overall inconsistency and flaws with Jokic make it incredibly difficult to predict until we get to see them.
