I can honestly say this, I have never felt prouder to be a Democrat than I am in these trying times. I have been a member of the party since 1972 when I cast my proudest vote for president, but over the years I've often been embarrassed by my party and most definitely not proud. During the Clinton years, I finally had it up to here and emailed and called the Green Party to join up, but the damned fools never contacted me, so here I am. (I would have never voted for Nader in 2000 or Stein in 2016, so I would have been back) I get sick of the bothsiderism so common these days. There are two sides only. One side is good, if flawed on occasion, and one side is pure, unadulterated evil. I'm with you! To be honest, though, it's not really that the Republican party is "evil," it's that it is 100% in the pocket of big business and the rich, do everything they do to benefit big business and the rich at the expense of everyone else, and then use culture and religious issues to fool as many voters as they can into voting against their interests.

I must admit one thing. Jimmy Carter pissed me off in 1979/80 and I voted for John Anderson. Hated Reagan as I knew what he was about as a Californian while he was governor. But Carter alienated me so badly that I unregistered as a Democrat and became an independent. Now, of course, I can look back on Carter and only admire him. Even Reagan didn’t turn out as badly as I feared, and was a decent fellow. He even supported amnesty for undocumented immigrants and a pathway to citizenship. His problem was in being anti-labor and anti-government, firing the air traffic controllers and saying government is the problem. That ushered in a generation of corporatist greed that we live with to this day.
I have never voted for a Republican in my life. To me, it’s the party of selfishness and greed. One time, I called Larry King when he had a radio talk show in the early 80’s, and said to him I could never feel comfortable with Republicans because that’s the party that houses actual racists and fascists. I then told him the word “liberal” has been demonized by the GOP. Without liberalism, we would never have gotten Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, consumer protections, environmental protections, the great public works projects of the 20th century such as the Hoover Dam and Golden Gate Bridge, the Civil Rights act, and so on. Republicans fought against all of these. I was very happy when Larry King agreed!
So, while still not registered Democrat (though I have been to vote in primaries in the past, I prefer to be unaffiliated to reduce the junk phone calls and mail), I alway vote for the Dem because that’s the party that works to improve people’s lives, however flawed. I’ve even gone door to door in the past, for Dukakis in 1988 (when I met a beautiful Greek American woman volunteer that I had a relationship with, but dumped due to cultural chasms. Turned out I ended up marrying a Chinese woman 12 years later. Who knew!), and also canvassed for Kerry in 2004. Both lost. so I fear doing that again, but won’t get out of the house this year anyway due to trying to avoid COVID.
Trump is an existential threat to our country, in fact the whole world. He could directly or indirectly (through lack of diplomatic work or incompetence) lead us into nuclear war. I’ve probably made an enemy or two through this message board thread, but I urge them to vote for Biden. They are much younger than me, but should take seriously the threat Trump poses. They need to wake up and smell the coffee, so to speak. I am not even sure where that saying came from, but I digress.

I too voted for John Anderson. Although he was a good man, I feel guilty having abandoned Jimmy Carter who is surely one of the greatest human beings to ever occupy the White House. (it's his 96th birthday today) I have voted for three. One was secretary of state Mary Estelle Buchanan. My father, a devoted Democrat, loved her. One was some no-name for (I think) Denver City Council because I had the black female Democrat as a college professor and knew she was a hateful b***h racist against anyone who was white...the only person I've ever met who was like that. Just as Jimmy Carter is the anti-Trump, Dorothea Clarke was like negative Superman Last one was Bill Owens for Governor for two reasons. A. I loathed his opponent Gail Schoettler B. A local liberal talkshow host who called everyone "stems" loved him Jay Marvin, and I even went to a movie night fundraiser. I also was a Ben Nighthorse Campbell delegate to the state convention, but he was a Democrat at the time (I supported BNC because a Republican friend told me he had the best chance of winning, which was true, but it still felt slimy...sort of like voting for Bill or Hillary made me feel... I think for many this is true, and I totally used to ascribe to this theory, let's face facts, most of those voting against their interests are also racist pigs.

The link doesn't seem to work in the previous post. Jay Marvin is who talked me into voting for Bill Owens.(It turns out I know or have met many people in that story. One example. I've told the story of the guy who succeeded me as coach/captain of my company's softball/basketball teams. He was one of Jay's (and my) favorite cops)

(Hard to imagine Wash Park in the early 70's if you weren't there, isn't it? I was there. It was Cheech and Chong and Hunter S. Thompson and The Acid Test. Can you imagine how today's owners of houses across the street from the park would yowl if there were hundreds of hippies blasting music, stripping off clothes, smoking pot, throwing frisbees, playing guitars every minute of every day.
I'd love to see it happen again.

Love Chris Hayes A-block tonight: “The Disinformation President”.
Nobody in the world has spewed more than The Donald. He’s a crank, a crackpot. Anyone who believes his BS I feel sorry for.

Trump and the Nazis (go to video in link)The only I could stomach his survival would be if he spends the rest of his life in jail. I'm not usually a hater. I hated Nixon yet cried when he died. I hated my cheating ex-wife, but now I wish her all the best for a happy life" Trump is unique. I will loathe his sorry ass for every breath he takes until he croaks, and that day can't come soon enough. I will then hate his corpse and his entire disgusting family. No sympathy.

No sympathy. None. (Is this story even real or a convenient dodge?) On balance, it’s probably true. Trump had a heavy campaign schedule which he needs to fill his ego. So I doubt he’s faking it for sympathy vote. No campaigning for two weeks minimum. Shows his voters he was taking it too lightly. Mocking Biden for wearing big mask on Tuesday backfired. The more that coronavirus is the overriding issue going into election, the worse for Trump...

so i really dont want anybody to die or something... i hope trump survives it... but, karma man, you f***ing deserve this for not taking it seriously enough and protect your country... Trump doesn't deserve to die in office from covid. He'd get a state funeral with military honor guards and the like etc. etc. No way. What he deserves is more along the lines of this: 1) he loses the election in a landslide, 2) Democrats win back the Senate by at least a couple of seats and retain a huge majority in the House, 3) Trump's Supreme Court confirmation gets delayed because of covid outbreak among too many Senate Republicans (Lee of Utah is now positive) to get it done before Biden is inaugurated, 4) after losing the presidency, Trump endures the following: a) loses his tax audit, requiring him to repay roughly $150 mil in principle, interest and penalties, and b) he gets charged and convicted of a series of state and federal crimes, including massive tax and insurance fraud, and is sentenced to restitution of hundreds of millions of dollars, an amount sufficient to wipe out his assets and force the sale of any businesses and real and personal property that still have value, and of course in addition he is sentenced to 10-20 years of prison time, and he dies while serving his sentence on NY state crimes while housed at the Attica Correctional Facility near Buffalo, NY. That's what Trump deserves.
