of course with #1 we have a better chance at james, but its still only 1/4.
the 2nd one gives us a significantly better chance to sign a free agent or two.

I'm finding the poll results to be a fascinating exploration of the collective Nugget fan psyche.
I'm not sure I agree that winning 35 games will attract FAs any more than winning 20 will. If we win that many, it's most likely because Howard had a great year and he's gonesville after the season.
More important than getting 35 wins would be for the young guys to show their potential and get a buzz going around the league about the Nuggets' future...kinda like Memphis has a good buzz going.

A quick jump to a 35+ win season is a real possibility. Right now the nugs remind me of the Magic the year that Doc Rivers took over. I would be an awfully happy camper to watch a decent team playing team ball, and that is what I saw the nugs doing at the end of last season and during the Summer League. My guess is that around 4 to 5 teams around the league will self-destruct and unless the nugs truly make an effort to be dead last they will be hard pressed to lose that much. So I fugure it's better to hope for a decent season and protect the rooks from experiencing life at the bottom, than hoping for a complete train wreck of a year and a strong lottery position.

I do not want to see the team under-achieve. If they finish the season with a bad record because they were simply outmatch by other teams, that is fine. But, if they start losing games because of lack of chemistry, whining in the media, coach vs. player fights, etc, I will be pissed. I would rather this team start to grow and win as many games as they can.
The one thing I have really liked about Kiki acquisitions is that they are all good effort, with strong character. I think we saw some of that after the Dallas trade. Howard is the consumate professional, and Harvey plays with a lot of energy. It also seems like the rookie fit this mentality. If they can play well, and build some chemistry, they will be a fun team to watch, and I think FA's would want to sign here.
The FA's that we want are not the type that says "I want to play for a contender", but one that says "I want to play for a good organization and help make them a contender". I am actually quite optimistic about next season, and think we will end up surprising a lot of people.

having a train-wreck of a season will be good for no one. the rookies will be traumatized, the vets will want out, and we'll be back at square one.
better to drop a few spots in the lottery, pick up a nice FA addition, and build momentum.

Absolutely, 100% agree.
Again, if having the worst record actually assured the number one pick, perhaps, but when it means NOTHING, why not be the best you can be?
As Doug Moe would say, "It's a no-brainer".
