Movin' on Knicks are pretty darn good. 27-17, 10-2 since acquiring OG Anunoby. And one of those losses was against Orlando without Jalen Brunson. Other was away against Luka-less Mavs. So they are 10-1 with both Anunoby and Brunson playing. Saving grace, their starting center is Isaiah Hartenstein, who does play really good, especially comparing what he was giving us in short period he was here. He is getting 12 rebounds per 36, which almost as good as Jokic. His per game numbers are lower mostly cause he didn't play that much while Robinson was healthy. That being said, he might not be playing, having ankle issues. Their backup is Jericho Sims. Jokic and Gordon better show up, cause they might be doubling Jokic with Randle and Achiuwa... but its MSG, best place to put up a show oh, and Jalen Brunson is nuisance Needless to say, Jimijam should be banned asap. This winning streak needs to continue, and doing it while Jimijam is not banned is getting harder and harder...

Damn, that's the best winning percentage the Knicks have had in forever. Melo's probably crying because they don't want him either.

safe to say OG has superstar impact without being a superstar.
the 2017 draft will forever live in infamy.

safe to say OG has superstar impact without being a superstar. the 2017 draft will forever live in infamy. And it was really a cascade of errors. The Nuggets originally held another pick in that draft -- but included it in the Nurkic for Plumlee trade, because Nurk was being *such* a baby that we needed to include a pick to move him. Though I think TC got played there and could have gotten it done for a couple seconds. If we'd kept that second pick, then even if we traded Mitchell for Lyles + 24, it's likely that (1) we take OG a few spots before Toronto comes up, and (2) we'd also have a plan for another player in that range so we wouldn't have just gone with the Lydon panic pick. Imagine coming out of that draft with OG and Derrick White...

I’m going to put my head in the sand and pretend if that 2017 disaster draft doesn’t happen, it turns into some butterfly affect and we don’t end up winning the title in 2023.

I’m going to put my head in the sand and pretend if that 2017 disaster draft doesn’t happen, it turns into some butterfly affect and we don’t end up winning the title in 2023. Exactly! The process had a goal of winning a title - we did it and remained competitive, it was not a one (half)season thing like the Raptors with their title few seasons ago after which they were not considered a contender.
So really doesn't make much sense talking how better we would have been if this or that in the past.

I understand the "everything happens for a reason" mantra and the Nuggets should be grateful for winning a championship. but at the same time, "losing" OG still stings because it was so abundantly clear even back in 2017 that OG was the perfect compliment to Joker and Murray, even if the rest of the non-Masai league devalued him because he wasn't Klay Thompson or Gordon Hayward offensively. so this is not hindsight bias at work here.
if Mares, denverstiffs and the other doofuses in Nugget media didn't fall over themselves calling Tim a draft genius over the (admittedly good) McDermott draft trade, he probably would have just made the simple no-brainer pick. but no, Timmy wanted another dopamine hit from the blog bois and ended up Keyser Soze'ing himself and the Nuggets out of the perfect third option.

2017 was best thing ever. not only because of OG, but even more because of Mitchell trade. if we kept him, Jamal would never hit his stride, and I'm not sure we would won title with Mitchell/Jokic combo. Actually, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't. Mitchell is surely better regular season player, but he is not perfect Jokic complementary piece. Also, Jamal is ready to give his heart and soul to the team and is perfectly cool to be second violin. Mitchell needs to be no1 and I never saw him putting as much defensive effort as Jamal.
Also, with OG here, there is a big chance we aint drafting MPJ, we aint going after AG...

Scooter last year had actually pointed out that we traded multiple firsts to make up for the OG miss:
1. First to okc for grant
2. Two firsts (basically - Hampton) for AG
So basically - we traded 3 firsts to finally get our defensive specialist.
In the universe where TC doesn’t get cute and takes OG, I still see us getting mpj because I don’t think OG as a rookie was much of a needle mover.
2019: Do we beat PDX with OG? Probably yes. Do we beat the warriors? No.
2020: Do we beat the lakers with OG (and not grant)? No. We lost that series because Plumlee couldn’t get a f***ing rebound to save his life.
2021: Murray injured - but do you want AG or OG? Easy choice - you take AG.
2022: (see 2021)
To me, AG is better than OG.
But if you take OG, you get to retain 3 first round picks.
2020 - pick 25 - maybe we take Bane? Or Jaden McDaniels. Or use the two picks to trade up and get Maxey? TC wanted Zeke and Hampton - so - we probably still take Zeke and Hampton, but without giving the 2023 pick to NO (to get Hampton).
We then sent Hampton and our 2025 first to Magic for AG.
So the question becomes:
1. Do we win a banner in 2023 with OG instead of AG? I say yes.
2. Are we missing out on a massive prospect that NO or Orlando can take in 2025 etc? Again - I’m not going to worry about it.
Sucks to lose firsts - but we struck f***ing gold with Braun and Watson - Straw also looks solid. We don’t need any further picks really for the next 3 years, as our championship window remains wide open.
On the whole - AG is better than OG (especially against a foe like Lebron) - and the picks kept would have been wasted partially on Hampton. I think we actually ended up better because AG is a better fit (but Calvin taking Watson, Braun and Straw honestly made up for the lost picks). It is fun to pick on TC, but he absolutely fleeced the magic on the AG trade - that made up for the OG blunder, along with the FO promoting Calvin.
The real heartbreak is not taking Bane with the Hampton pick. That would be a fun scenario to Monday morning quarterback.
