The least excited person in all this about last night’s win seems to be Jokic himself. When asked how he felt about it by Lisa Saunders immediately after game, he said, “It’s good, it’s good”, matter-of-factly. Then said “We got the job done, and can go home”. Wasn’t exactly doing backflips. In the presser, he repeated that he can go home now, and when told parade is on Thursday, said “No. I want to go home”. He also said in his initial presser remarks that he has many interests besides basketball. I got vibes that Jokic doesn’t get the same enjoyment we all get from this chip. In the presser, he also said something about not enjoying the job, though that was clearly not fully serious. I think there’s an element of truth that Jokic looks at playing for Nuggets as a job, and he now looks more forward to going home than seeing all his fans at the parade and rally. Appreciate Jokic while he’s here. I get the feeling he will retire after his supermax contract expires. Won’t play until 40 or even late 30’s, unless his brothers put the pressure on him to keep going! Ofcourse he does, he may just express it differently as each person has their ways in expressing feelings be it happy or sad. He lives for this moment that's for sure. Being completive professional athlete all you want do is a WIN CHAMPIONSHIP. Anyway all I want to see at the parade - team on an open bus but leading the bus - Jokic on the back of the horse Jokic has a DEEP competitive drive to be the best. If he didn't, he wouldn't have gotten into shape like he did. However - climbing the hill is more important to Jokic than the prize. I also recall an article from 8 years ago or so that talked about Jokic and his affection for Peyton Manning, and how Manning carried himself. Not saying that Jokic is copying Manning - but I think Jokic's way of being a leader is in the school of Manning - somewhat curmudgeony, impatient with all of the novelty, but the drive and desire to win cannot be questioned. Look no further than Jokic throwing Murray into a coldpool. Jokic couldn't be happier. What JB said too - Jokic knew what the outcome of all of this would be and is also exhausted. He's ready for relax time now, with Sombor egg benedicts, horses, and working on child #2. Don't fret - the man wants a dynasty.

Not sure how much relax time he's gonna have this summer as Serbia wants him in World Cup. WC is end of August and players meet earlier of course and start training. For Serbia, World Cup is the biggest stage and whole country is behind it, same as for Nuggets NBA Finals are.

All the talk from the media about how Jokic was celebrating in the locker room awkwardly or how he doesn't care about this game/championship as much as he should, are all off-base.
We have certainly seen Jokic party it up in Serbia after previous seasons but even with all of that, he strikes me as an introverted person or at least he has some introverted tendencies.
I see a lot of myself in Jokic.
Much like myself at work, I prefer to get the job done rather than to engage in extracurriculars which can often lead to complacency and a bad job. I 've told my bosses and cohorts for years that I don't need praise, recognition or adulation; I just prefer if we can get the job done.
Basketball, especially in the USA, is a very extroverted and extracurricular heavy endeavor on all levels. Growing up, trying to be an exuberant personality on the playground was a herculean task because it was counter to who I was and still am intrinsically. As a kid, my peers all wanted to make the NBA, our actual talent level was irrelevant to us. We all thought about the NBA culture of materialism and how many millions we could make. I never fit in with that mentality growing up but it is amazing to see how many pro athletes are still somewhat incumbered by that mentality.
It's clear that Jokic prefers simplicity. Focus on the job, do great at it, go home and attend to his family and horses. If Jokic wasn't dedicated, he wouldn't have any of the accolades that he does so that talk is just nonsense.
Jokic is also much better prepared for a life outside of basketball as he will always have his family and horses to keep him humble. We have seen how athletes "dedicated to the game" can spiral after the fame is gone.
It's hard out there for an introvert (or at least someone with introverted tendencies) to exist in an extroverted world but Jokic is doing damn well at it.
Thanks for reading my tangent.

Makes you wonder how many years he is willing to spend this much time away from home tho. Considering how eager he is to go home.
But honestly who cares, he can do whatever he wants. Give the man a month long Christmas vacation.

if anyone sees one of those Heat rally towels that say
Milwaukee New York Boston Denver
on ebay or something, please point me to it. I want one. (Or, my wife's idea: a graphic of that towel but on a t-shirt.)

There's a lot of American arrogance at play with how Jokic is talked about with regards to wanting to go home or how happy he should look after winning a title.
How many American players overseas are on the first flight back home the second their season ends? How many American players playing in Denver are itching to get on a flight to LA or Miami or wherever they actually live when the season ends?
How many people bat and eye that Lebron is at movie premieres or working on his other businesses? Jimmy with his coffee company. That's viewed one way but Jokic and his horses are viewed as quirky. It's not dissimilar. Guys have diverse interests, Jokic's are just not the normal American basketball player interests, which apparently makes it weird.
I think he loves his home, like many do, and is excited to relish his accomplishment with the people who know him best and have been riding with him long before the MVP trophies.
Never change, Joker. Brought us a championship. If he wants to ride off into the sunset (maybe literally) at 32 rather than stressing about how to add to his NBA legacy, he'll go out authentically himself.
Don't take this for granted. He's 1 of 1 in every way. He had a great quote about valuing the journey over just purely the results, and I think it's a great way to approach being a fan in this era.

I'll admit, it is funny that Jokic was more excited to see Monte than winning a championship.
as for the possibility of Jokic retiring early because he lacks passion for the game, there has been enough reports of Jokic being the first to practice and last to leave to prove that's poppycock. can you think of a single player that has reached the heights he did that didn't have a burning, unending desire to succeed? ESPECIALLY of a player of his physical profile that left him to be drafted during a Taco Bell commercial? look at Zion Williamson if you want an example of a player that does not like basketball and is only in it for the money and fame.
if there's a path for Jokic to continue to play a high level, I see no reason why he's just going to walk away. but if what little speed/athleticism he has fades and it becomes a struggle just to hang around, then I would understand.

I see a guy who is addicted to competition and winning. He’s built different because he’s not a glory seeker, but do not mistake that for a lack of drive. I do not know the man, but I see a driven psychopath of a competitor when he steps between the lines, and until he loses that passion or the game isn’t fun anymore…he’s going to be wearing a nuggets jersey.

And everyone reacts differently to these things. I remember people being kinda dumbfounded when Brent Favre said he felt sad after winning the Superbowl. Made sense to me. For myself, I wasn't really dancing around after the game. I was happy, but also felt relieved and maybe even a little sad too. It took too long. My dad didn't live to see it. Some of the fans have been waiting 60+ years for it. I'm beyond happy we won, don't get me wrong, but it's often a mixed bag in life. Life is about the journey, but it's also about reaching the summit every now and then. It's a swirl of emotions. Not only that, but I've seen Jokic get pretty excited after wins before. Like when Gary hit that game winner over OKC, Jokic was going crazy. He obviously loves winning as much as anyone.

Jokic is all about winning. In basketball. In horse racing. And in family life. Anything he spends his time doing, he will put his full effort forth in doing it.
This does not guarantee that he will continue doing the same things as long as possible. I’d wager that basketball would rank behind family life, friends, and horses. He has his head on straight. He might retire at 33. Or he might continue as a Nugget until he’s 40. No way to get inside his head, and even he may not know what he wants to do yet, after supermax contract expires.
