Alexander has as much as CG, IMO. Still would have rather kept him. Gillespie is 25 and Alexander is 21. I haven’t changed my view that the Nuggets should do what they need to do to get Alexander signed to a roster contract — based on the little I’ve seen he appears to me to have NBA talent. Alexander looks more intriguing to me as well. CG certainly deserves a roster spot over somebody like Pickett but I really don't think his loss matters at all. He wasn't going to earn legit minutes here.

He wasn't going to earn legit minutes here. He was emergency insurance. We already saw today what we're in for if either Russ or Jamal miss time: CB and Strawther running the point. Because Pickett is unplayable and Trey will be limited to 50 active games just like CG was last year. Carrying both Trey and CG essentially doubles that and ensures that at least one of them is active for all 82 games, so we don't have to manage them. If we feel like we need to send Trey down for two weeks so he can start every night and get some run, we do. If we feel like we need someone with a bit more experience for a couple games we have CG sitting there. Ideally you need neither of them, but you don't plan for the ideal.

I just think when it comes to the meaningful minutes Malone would get creative before relying on either players to play legit minutes. You'd see CB/Strawther at the point with Jokic running the offense. The minutes that would exist would be irrelevant 80% of the time. Malone absolutely loves CG and he played 24 games last year. Jackson was absolutely cooked and Murray got hurt. Picking up Russ makes the CG loss a nothing burger. Had we not got Russ than the extra insurance would have been nice I guess. It's more about how much Pickett sucks than anything.

It's more about how much Pickett sucks than anything. Russ had surgery during the season last year and he's turning 36. We cannot count on 82 games from him like we got from Reggie last year. What happens if Jamal and Russ both get hurt at the same time? And again, you can't just look at when CG played last year, you have to look at when he dressed, because we literally ran out of games for him at the end of the year. We lost games last year because we had to run KCP, Holiday, Braun, and Pickett at PG2 while CG was inactive to skirt the 50 game limit (CG ended up being active for 49 instead of 50, but that's only because he rolled his ankle the last week of the season). If we had the season to do over we'd have surely sat CG for a bunch more of the early season games so we'd have had him available down the stretch, because we absolutely missed his presence at times. This year we'll have to manage Trey the same way. It'll be incredibly dumb if we have Alexander active during the early season when the rest of the roster is healthy, because we absolutely cannot afford to run out of Trey games this year. And don't forget: we lost three roster guards and replaced them with one. Russ replaced Reggie but we didn't replace KCP or Holiday at all. We just promoted Braun and Strawther, whom we already had. KCP, Braun, Reggie, and Holiday were all very healthy last year and we still didn't have the guard depth we needed. Conversely Strawther, Murray, and Russ all got hurt last year and we're essentially counting on all three of them to be significantly healthier this year.

It's more about how much Pickett sucks than anything. we absolutely missed his presence at times. We'll just have to agree to disagree and this is simply where we'll never see eye to eye. I don't think we missed his presence on the court at all because I don't think he ever had one. Much like Alexander there's always going to be more things important. If Russ/Murray go down and we start CB at the 1 than the performance of the starters/short bench will dictate the game. Not CG/Alexander. I actually think a CB/Strawther/MPJ/Gordon/Jokic lineup is sneaky interesting. Gordon has underrated ball skills and you could run alot of sets with Jokic creating out of the post. It's also the regular season so your not seeing crazy pressure on the ball like we did with Minny in round 2. I'd honestly rather see Malone test out new sets/get creative with lineups in random regular season games than give minutes to players who have no business playing playoff basketball. Alexander is atleast interesting because he could potentially become something. You could argue it'll lead to a couple of losses but I'd argue in the NBA your top players in the regular season decide that alot more. Nuggets were up 107-93 vs a 21 win team with 9 minutes left in the game and lost. That's what matters. Your starters choking away games. Not 12th men.

meaningless exhibition game. one step above SL. Bro you just based Calvin being goated drafter of one meaningless wxhibition game evaluating the development of the young guys is quite literally the only useful date to extract from an exhibition game. I don't care if Murray went 4-14, I don't if Jokic looked more like Kousta Koufus. it doesn't mean anything.
