If Malone actually believes what he's saying, he needs to spend some time at the happy home on serious drugs. Love clouds judgment sometimes …Mike Green 2023

I was at the game and I certainly wondered aloud about the starters still being in. That said, considering that the Nuggets starters did not play heavy minutes, and that the pace of the game wasn’t very fast, it appeared to me that some (especially Jokic and Murray) were really winded, even early in the game, which to me shows their conditioning isn’t at 100% after coasting the last 6 weeks. So there is an argument for getting their minutes to 30 to get their conditioning up.

forcing Jokic to play unnecessary minutes in the playoffs when he's nursing an injured wrist remains an insanely reckless decision.
Malone should not be coaching a team with championship aspirations. he should be coaching the Hornets or Pistons.

Malone should not be coaching a team with championship aspirations. he should be coaching the Hornets or Pistons. Jokic has been nursing a sore wrist for 2 seasons. Assuming its the same level of sore wrist and nothing more, that seems irrelevant. I think my conditioning concerns are real because: 1) The Nuggets will need their best players to play heavy minutes in the playoffs sooner or later, and 2) I’d like to see them pick up the pace and take better advantage of the altitude in Denver.

I was wondering the same, in regard to conditioning - I was also thinking that Malone wanted to keep their rhythm sharp.
I still disagree with the decision - but I can see where Malone was going with this.

I still disagree with the decision - but I can see where Malone was going with this. I just wanted to provide a different perspective. There’s an argument that our guys had 6 or so weeks of coasting to try to avoid injury but that time is over. I noticed that Jokic and Murray were quite winded very early in game 1. Both were breathing really hard and catching up on their oxygen when there was a break or they were away from the ball (I’m sure some of that was off camera). I remember one instance early on when Jokic was stalling a little before getting to the free throw line because he was panting hard — the ref definitely indulged him a bit by waiting an extra couple of beats to throw him the ball. Jokic was still breathing hard when he missed at least one of the free throws (he only went 1-3). I’ll grant that the guys were working really hard on defense in game 1 and it paid off. But they were not pushing the offensive pace a ton. I think they have room for conditioning improvement and hope they are still ramping up because it would be useful to take advantage of the altitude more. They might not need that against the TWolves, but the Suns are a different level of competition.

We just beat a solid PO team by 30 by playing Jokic only 28 minutes. That hasn't happened in Nuggets PO history ever. Breathing heavily at times means nothing else but playing a good defense. The most important thing at the moment is that the legs are rested and we need to maintain that. At the end of the 3rd, when Jokic left the game we were up by 20 and the game was literally decided. At that time Murray was 4 for 16 FG (25%) and MPJ was 6 for 15 (40%). With the g-leage numbers from the 2 max players we were up by 20. Imagine if they shoot the ball at a decent clip. We'd be up by 40. We can't ask for more than that

MPJ has got to be better in PnR defense. AG gets a foul because of how far he trailed.

Already can see Wolves with different gameplan to go down low and get our guys in foul trouble.

Honestly hate how we're playing offensively but we're winning so it's cool.
