In next step toward imminent return, Denver Nuggets' Isaiah Thomas has been assigned to the NBA G League for rehab assignment, sources tell @theathleticnba @watchstadium. When did vets start getting assigned to the g league? Reminds me of star mlb players going to AAA for a few games but I don’t remember nba stars doing this

Many quality players have been in the gleague to get back to match fitness. It's not like we have an opportunity to do that while also chasing a top2 seed

vets going to the G-league has been a thing at least the past 2-3 years, when coming off of a long injury. Often it's just one or two games, just so they can get a lot of minutes right away but also control those minutes and not be overly worried about W/L

It's a newer thing as the G-League moves to a more true minor league system. Love it. Get some reps, work into shape a bit.
KSE needs to fix this not having a G-League team asap. It's going to become more and more a competitive disadvantage.

NBA TV is a joke. David Griffin just said Marc Gasol is as good a passing big as we have in the league. For some reason, Griffin hasn't been high on the Nuggets all season. But then again, he's in the same category as Mark Jackson -- guys who would be working in the NBA if teams thought highly of them.

Wow...bad teams do this... Bingo. The Magic trade a serviceable bench SF plus a first round pick and a second round pick for a guy who has been completely unplayable for 2 years since day 1 in the NBA. BTW, Fultz's latest diagnosis of "thoracic outlet syndrome" is something which some doctors will diagnose based on subjective complaints only after everything that can be found through actual medical testing has been ruled out, and which other doctors believe is a euphemism for "psychological disorder."

It's going to become more and more a competitive disadvantage. I heard from a basketball operations guy that it'll happen in the next couple years. They're just trying to get all the details nailed down -- have had some markets they've explored and had problems with, but eventually they'll find a place with a suitable stadium + the ability to bring in fans + adequate training facilities, at least enough that they don't have to spend years overhauling everything.

I want LA.
Too many tired legs on that team to compete.

Have you seen johnathan simmons’ numbers?
He’s averaging 7/2/2 @ 36/23/78
Those are seriously bad numbers.

also, the Magic didn't trade their pick, they traded the OKC pick, which is probably like #25 or so this year.

also, the Magic didn't trade their pick, they traded the OKC pick, which is probably like #25 or so this year. The OKC pick is in 2020. It's top 20 protected (turns into a couple of 2nds in later years if not conveyed in 2020). But the real kicker in the deal is the 2nd round pick is going to be the 2019 Cavs (the formula for the pick via earlier trades is a complicated "most favorable of" formula but its going to be the Cavs pick for Philly), meaning a non-guaranteed contract for a pick in the 31-34 range, which is plenty valuable. Simmons is no big asset, but two picks that are relatively likely to both be in the 20-34 range? Too much for a guy in Fultz who will be making $10 mil next season (Philly picked up his 3rd year option) and is 50-50 to play another game in the NBA. My theory is -- once you've seen a guy play in the NBA, ignore where he was drafted. The Nuggets might have made this mistake to some extent in the now infamous Mitchell/Lyles trade, as I've heard Connelly state in an interview that Lyles was in the top 10 on the Nuggets' draft board in 2015.

Of course the Nets get blown out by the Bulls and the Pistons just barely beat New York.

Pelicans are playing AD but are benching him the entire 4Q. That situation is going to be very awkward for the rest of the season.

The NBA warning the Pels that they'd fine them 170k a game if they don't play him is kind of BS. It seems kind of unfair given that tanking teams have been shutting players down for phantom injuries for years. And this situation was forced by Davis, so dunning the Pels seems to put the onus on the wrong party to this drama.
