Sane conservatives like Sasse are a rare breed these days. Cult worship for Trump, his lies, cons, and conspiracy theories is eating away at the Republican Party, and ultimately the nation. We need two honest, morally sound major political parties, maybe even three or four! Right now we have only one party that stands up for the Constitution and Rule of Law. Sasse is at least genuine and straight about his state’s party insanity, and the craziness of Trumpism. Not a fan of his policies, but he’s a man of principle.

Biden's first mis-step, which I saw coming a mile away (I'm sure most every politically savvy person did) is the covid relief bill's check amount. From Day One, Biden said $2000. From Day One, if anyone actually ASKED him to clarify, he would explain the checks would be for $1400 plus the $600 already sent/sending, as this check was still in process when he started saying it, for a total of $2000. However, this became the talking point of Biden/Ossoff/Warnock and anyone speaking for them, without further explanation. Biden clarified more than once what was meant, but he kept saying $2000 without explanation in most cases. I wondered if "the people" would get what he was saying or if they would expect the new checks to be $2k, and now the press is asking if they're breaking a campaign promise by only going with $1400. Some, including Warnock today, are pushing for $2k now as an afterthought, even though everyone with a brain knows that wasn't what was originally meant. Of course, $2K is totally fine with me, but Biden will lose favor even if the $1400 is pushed through as though the Republicans "won" a concession, even when they actually didn't. The talking point was on purpose. Surely someone in the party knew this could come back to bite them. Why was it allowed to continue?

Nobody will remember if it was $1,400, $2,000, or whatever he meant. In fact, relatively few are paying attention to his words. Only political junkies are. Right now, Dems are about to propose $3,000 child benefit that would send $250 per month to million of families to address child poverty. This is part of their $1.9 trillion relief package. You think people will be parsing words and wondering about imagined “missteps” if/when such a package is passed and signed by Biden? www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/02/07/child-benefit-democrats-biden/

It may be a formality signifying nothing to many, if not most, but the last couple of days have shown some dishonesty on our side, which sucks, because it is only our side which cares about helping the workers of America.
This weekend, Warnock was asked on an MSNBC show if his "campaign promise" of $2K was going to become a broken promise if the new round of checks weren't for the full amount of $2,000. Rather than explain the whole 600/1400 thing, which he is certainly aware of, he instead chose to say he would be disappointed if it weren't for $2,000, which was never intended by anybody (except perhaps hypothetically), and that he was fighting to "get it back" to that figure. He chose the easy way out when he knew he was technically not telling the truth.
Also, Bernie and the $15 minimum wage showed some dishonesty as well. He said the plan was never to up it all at once, and that it was always going to be incrementally raised. That's NOT what I understood, because both here and other places I argued that to do it all at once was not realistic and that it needed to be done incrementally, and I got non-stop blowback for perhaps being a Republican. Please someone show me an old article showing me it was always incremental and was always supposed to take years to get to $15.
Again...on BOTH ISSUES we, the Democrats, are on the right side, for god's sake, so why parse words and play politics with our original intentions? These were both conscious choices. We wanted our promises to sound as generous as possible to gain votes, something Republicans have always destroyed us in...we've always been TOO honest imo...so now we switch to a more realistic "incremental and not likely to end up in the bill anyway" and we really meant $1400 + 600, which is what Biden and others explained only if pressed, but saying $2,000 sounded better.
I think everyone except political junkies expected $2,000 and $15 minimum instantly if Biden won and if we somehow won both races in Georgia.

I think people didn’t know what to expect, but I seem to recall consensus was for $1,400 to make up the difference to get to the $2,000 they tried to achieve in December, without success. Some on the left, such as AOC, then pushed for $2,000 on top of the $600, but I don’t think the public really thought that would happen. More likely, it was likely seen as a starting point to negotiate for the $1,400. So I don’t see the dishonesty here, just political posturing. And I surely don’t think the public has thought much about it, or really cares that much. The child benefit is a much bigger deal.
I also don’t know if the federal minimum wage of $15 was to originally be phased in or not. Let’s not get into being hypercritical over supposed “broken promises” or “dishonesty” after what the GOP and Trump have done the past four years with their constant lying and corruption.

Oh yes, that's for SURE and I've said as much. It could be said they're playing politics and that game requires some serious manipulations. Biden is playing tough, and so far it's working !!! It's very different from how Clinton and Obama, and especially Jimmy Carter, acted. They were all fine and decent and honest, and for the most part, they were run over by the ruthless Republicans. So far I LIKE what I see !!! It's just not something I'm used to. Not since LBJ have we had a true ass-kicker as President, and like LBJ, Biden knows exactly what he's doing. I'm observing, but not complaining.
As a retail manager most of my life, I argued against an immediate increase to $15. There are many reasons, but I am of course in favor of that as a goal in a few years, with an immediate increase to say, $11 or 12, tops. I argued on another forum that anybody who thinks an instant increase to $15 would work hasn't worked for anywhere near that amount for many years, if ever. It would only make the lowest paid people working at the actual minimum wage starting pay happy, IF they stayed employed. What about someone who was earning anywhere from $14 to 16? They would be totally screwed after, in most cases, taking years to get to that point, as most companies wouldn't raise EVERYONE'S pay. Many small businesses would already be hurting raising those at the bottom. FYI, my first job I started at $1.60 an hour at King Soopers, which was minimum wage at the time. My last job before retiring, I was making $25 an hour, but this was after eighteen years, and I was a manager in various forms for all of those years, including five salaried years.
Hopefully people will understand and not hold Biden to Jimmy Carter honesty standards.

A very interesting but not surprising statistic put forth on "Meet the Press" today was that Democrats have gone from 56 to 61% female, and from 55 to 60% college educated, whole Republicans as a party are becoming less educated and increasingly male. One word explains it: Trumpism. Those stats certainly are true based on my observations.

Frankly, I am amazed at the lack of commentary here on the subject of impeachment.
Yes, I know this is not a political forum, however...
This is ALL THAT MATTERS right now!!!!!!!!!!!
The Denver Nuggets DON'T MATTER !!!!!!
Republicans as a party are SHAMEFUL !!!! With a few notable brave exceptions, they are all NAZIS !!! Will any more show humanity, morality, and decency? If not, their names will go down permanently in shame for all of history.

Ugly, gruesome video. Proof that there was forethought, planning, and knowledge by Trump and Associates that people would violently storm the Capitol.
Open and shut case. Conviction is necessary or else far right political violence will be normalized by the fascists in GOP.

Anyone who STILL supports Trump is a cultist, a racist, an idiot, or a Nazi. Or a combination. They can take their pick.
Some of them used to be good people and decent, caring human beings. To those I say, WAKE THE F*CK UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they have repented and dumped Trump, they have hope of becoming a human being once again.
It is scary beyond beyond belief that anyone with more than a single working braincell can't look past the guy's OBVIOUS fraudulence. Snake-oil salesmen are eventually figured out by most people.
QAnoners are beyond beyond. The only cure is what must be done with attacking zombies.
